Infortrend Combined 8Gb FC and SATA Support
On its new two 3U/16-bay storage controllers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 19, 2009 at 3:08 pmInfortrend Technology, Inc. introduced two new Fibre Channel (FC) storage systems, the redundant-controller EonStor F16F-R4840 and the single-controller F16F-S4840, to extend its EonStor G6 Series product line. Featuring high-speed 8G FC technology and flexible support of FC and SATA drives, the two 3U/16-bay models help implement tiered storage for users’ powerful 8G FC SAN, meeting the needs of a number of diverse applications at the optimal cost-efficiency.

Following the release of various form factor choices for 8G FC-to-SAS/SATA storage systems, Infortrend now rolls out the new F16F models to meet the operational demands of FC drives in 8G FC SANs. Combining two 8G FC ports on each controller with sixteen enterprise-class FC drives, the F16F system delivers breakthrough performance to process large amounts of data created by throughput-demanding applications such as video streaming and database batch processing. When the amount of data grows beyond the capacity of a single system, users can connect F16F systems with F16F-J4000-R or A16F-J2430-G expansion enclosures. The former provides more high performance storage capacity through FC drives, while the latter offers additional storage through high-capacity SATA drives. By combining FC and SATA drives in installations of up to 112 drives, users can get the highest ROI from their storage capacity while fulfilling their business data requirements.
In addition to enhanced performance and outstanding scalability, like all other Infortrend EonStor G6 models, the F16F also offers high availability, energy efficiency and simple management. To safeguard cached data during power outages, Infortrend’s innovative CacheSafe technology is integrated into these storage systems. During a power failure, the ‘Cache Backup Module (CBM)’ writes all cached data to the flash backup module (FBM) for permanent retention, eliminating the common 72-hour battery power limitation that can cause data loss. Based on a High Availability (HA) modular design, all redundant modules including controllers, power supplies and cooling fans are hot-swappable to achieve high fault-tolerance capability.
With a strong commitment to green IT, Infortrend designs the systems with intelligent drive spin-down, 80 plus-certified power supplies and dynamic cooling mechanisms. These features allow companies to reduce their carbon footprints and operating costs, while helping to contribute to environmental sustainability. To enable seamless management locally or remotely over LAN/WAN, all G6 storage systems can be administered, configured and monitored via SANWatch, a Java-based storage management software developed by Infortrend. This full-functioned management tool offers a user-friendly GUI and supports simultaneous script-based configuration of multiple systems.
"With the serial announcement of new 8G FC storage systems, Infortrend continues to demonstrate its leadership and expertise in developing best-in-class, enterprise-grade storage," said Thomas Kao, product planning and global marketing director at Infortrend Technology. "The new F16F models allow users to adopt fast and reliable FC drives in their 8G FC SAN and scale with cost-effective SATA drives. The enrichment of our EonStor G6 family will avail more users of the business returns realized by the high-speed FC technology."
