"Mechanical disk arrays with their high relative latency, high cost per I/O and significant maintenance, power and manageability costs will hold back the movement to an enterprise cloud-based architecture," Venner said. "Violin brings the right blend of high sustained performance, low cost and large scale that will allow the industry to move rapidly to adopt this architecture. I look forward to assisting Violin in the industry through my role as an advisor for the EDA and semiconductor industries."

"It’s truly an honor to welcome Kenneth Venner as a founding member of Violin’s Industry Advisory Board," said Don Basile, Chief Executive Officer of Violin Memory and former CEO of Fusion-io. "He has witnessed tremendous benefits of Violin’s technology firsthand through Broadcom’s own use of our memory appliances. His participation and guidance will be instrumental in enlightening the CIOs at Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies in the use of silicon storage to overcome the physical limitations of hard-disk memory arrays to realize data center efficiencies never before possible."

Venner has served as Chief Information Officer since joining Broadcom in 2000 and he is responsible for all business systems, computing and telecommunications infrastructure. He was elected a vice president in 2002. Previously, Venner was Vice President of Product Management and Chief Information Officer of Rockwell Electronic Commerce from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that he held a number of information sciences/information technology management positions for more than 11 years at Lucent Technologies/AT&T Bell Laboratories. He has a master’s in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s in business administration from New Hampshire College.
