Cisco Acquires Tandberg (Not Tandberg Data)

Cisco has just acquired Tandberg for around $3 billion.

There is no relation between Tandberg, in video conferencing, and Tandberg Data, in data storage, even if both companies were born in Oslo, Norway, the first one in 1989 and the second one in 1979. Now Tandberg Data is headquartered in Germany and Tandberg has dual headquarters in NY and Oslo.

But this acquisition could finally help Tandberg Data to avoid the confusion and to recuperate eventually the tandberg.com web site (currently it’s tandbergdata.com) and to use solely the name Tandberg, if Cisco decide not to use anymore the tandberg brand name for Cisco Tandberg and then Cisco only, but probably not in the near future.

Tandberg Data hates when journalists write only Tandberg in articles on the storage company.
