D2D2D 1U appliance starting at $1,411, up to 24TB with compression
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 30, 2009 at 3:25 pmIncreasing regulatory mandates and compliance regulations are requiring that small and mid-size businesses assure reliable data retention and recovery policies. To meet this need, Unitrends has released the Recovery-Archive, a 1U, rack mount, on-premise archiving appliance that delivers the speed and reliability of disk-to-disk-to-disk (D2D2D) rotational archiving in an affordable, high-density appliance.
Recovery-300
“Storing archive media offsite provides protection against theft, mismanagement and natural disasters yet traditional archiving strategies that rely on backup tapes dramatically hinder recovery speed,” said Mark Campbell, CTO, Unitrends. “The Recovery-Archive matches the value of an offsite archive with the near-instant recovery of data through disk-based restores. It’s an extremely reliable solution that also reduces the amount of media required, making it an ideal choice for those storing large archives offsite.”
The Recovery-Archive is a high density device that supports 1, 2, 3, and 4 drive rotational archiving strategies with 500GB, 1TB and 1.5TB disks. Designed to replace complex tape-based libraries and jukeboxes, the interoperable Recovery-Archive uses the industry-standard eSATA protocol, allowing users to move from Unitrends’ lowest-cost single drive dock system to the Recovery-Archive with the same media. The device supports a rotational archive set of up to four drives. This means that the device can typically accommodate between 12TB to 24TB of backup data with Unitrends’ always included advanced compression, depending upon the effective compression rate.
The Recovery-Archive complements all of Unitrends’ data protection appliances, including the Recovery-300, Recovery-610 and Recovery-7 Series as well as the DPU-2000 and DPU-3000, and provides a flexible and cost-effective solution for the most demanding archiving needs. The Recovery-Archive appliance supports any-to-any connections with one or more data protection appliance. As such, organizations can use the Recovery-Archive for a single large data protection appliance or to support up to four separate data protection appliances.
Rotational archiving is supported via hot-swap drives. The unit also features hot-swap power supplies and fans and user-serviceable cold-swap power supplies and fans for increased reliability, availability and serviceability.
