Provident Capital is one of Australia’s leading diversified finance and investment funds management groups, creating and managing high quality fixed interest investments and innovative mortgage lending. Provident has deep domain expertise in identifying the need for alternative methods of investment and finance and delivering innovative financial solutions.

After evaluating several archiving solutions including Symantec, Sunbelt and GFI, Provident selected Mimosa NearPoint because of its next-generation architecture, storage management, and self-service search capabilities. Since deploying NearPoint ten months ago, Provident has reduced storage requirements by 70 percent, boosted Exchange performance, and cut email-related help desk calls by 90 percent – freeing the IT staff to focus on the strategic needs of the business. In addition, the company has transformed its email system without incurring the expense and hassle of upgrading to a larger Exchange Server, or having to add additional hardware.

Our results with NearPoint have been fantastic,” said Nick Corrie, Head of IT for Provident Capital. “Nearly all of our problems with PST files – corruption, loss, and general headaches – have been eliminated, without any negative impact on Exchange, and without forcing us to upgrade our system.”

NearPoint has been a perfect solution for us in so many ways,” added Corrie. “It has enabled us to solve our email management problems cost-effectively with an integrated, out-of-the-box archiving solution that only Mimosa could deliver.”

The Mimosa NearPoint archiving solution
has delivered value to Provident Capital
in the following ways including:

  • Next-generation architecture: Mimosa NearPoint’s unique architecture does not require journaling or any agents on either the Exchange Server or user desktops. This ensures that there is no impact on production Exchange Server performance.
  • Storage management and PST archiving: Using NearPoint, administrators define policies that allow mailboxes on Exchange Servers to be extended to the NearPoint server using parameters such as message size, age, and mailbox quota. For managing offline email contained in PST files, the NearPoint PST Archiving Option crawls and uploads PST files to the NearPoint archive, where they are centrally managed and searched for email discovery. PST files can be automatically deleted after they are uploaded to the archive or remain as files managed by NearPoint.
  • Self-service search of archived data: Provident employees have seamless self-service access to their archived data, enabling them to find potentially lost or deleted messages and files without IT assistance.
  • Turnkey deployment and support services: Mimosa NearPoint’s ease of implementation and expert support services had Provident up and running the same day.

The beauty of Mimosa NearPoint is that it’s an intuitive, easy-to-install and easy-to-maintain integrated archiving solution that allows organizations to set it up and virtually forget about it afterwards,” said Scott Whitney, vice president product management of Mimosa Systems. “Provident Capital’s success with NearPoint is a text-book example of how well our technology performs in the real world.”
