El Fresko Technologies Announces MagnaStor 1.0

Based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, El Fresko Technologies introduced MagnaStor 1.0, an archival and compliance solution specifically designed for magnetic disk.

The volume of information that must be managed under compliance regulations has made traditional storage systems based on optical WORM (write-once-read-many) impractical and too costly to manage. MagnaStor is designed and built specifically to address the issues of providing long term, protected storage on magnetic devices.  

Magnetic storage offers much higher performance and storage densities at lower costs, but these attributes must be supplemented with controls and mechanisms that deal with the much shorter lifetimes of magnetic drives, higher error rates and the media’s inherent erasability.  

El Fresko’s MagnaStor magnetic WORM file system provides a secure, comprehensive archival compliance solution on magnetic storage systems.  The underlying file system operates transparently as a kernel based file system driver within the Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris operating systems.

MagnaStor 1.0 is scheduled to be generally available in Q4 2009.
