1,500 ISE Units From Xiotech in Production

Since June 2008

Xiotech Corporation announced that it put more than 1,500 Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) units into production in the technology’s first year of availability, from June 2008 to June 2009.

ISE units are the storage building blocks that make up the systems in Xiotech’s Emprise line, which includes the Emprise 5000, Emprise 7000 and Emprise 7000 Edge systems. These solutions have emerged as proven and valuable alternatives to traditional disk arrays because of their self-healing, high-performance architecture and the cost savings they deliver with a five-year warranty and 100 percent usable capacity.

"The rapid adoption of ISE by its customers is a reflection of the innovative approach taken by Xiotech," said Benjamin S. Woo, vice president of storage systems research at IDC. "Xiotech has demonstrated to its customers that they can realize increased value and cost savings through the implementation of the technology."

Raytown Quality School District, near Kansas City, is one of many satisfied users of Xiotech’s ISE technology. The district chose Emprise 7000 for its reliability, performance and easy scalability–all contributing to lower ongoing costs.

"The self-healing technology of Emprise 7000 lets us focus on our jobs without worrying about the system breaking down during a critical point in time," said Justin Watermann, technical coordinator for Raytown Schools. "Emprise 7000 gives us comparable performance to our last system with about half the spindles, which will reduce our ongoing hardware, energy and floor space costs. We also have all the performance and capacity we need so we can take on new initiatives without investing in more hardware."

Many other organizations also have implemented new Emprise systems recently. Other Emprise 5000 customers include: AgQuest Financial Services/Harvest Land Cooperative (Morgan, Minn.); SmartDrive (San Diego); and the Village of Tequesta, Fla. New Emprise 7000 customers include: Edison State College (Fla.); Entiera (Minneapolis); Mason General Hospital (Shelton, Wash.); and Wheaton College (Wheaton, Ill.).

ISE technology offers 100 percent usable storage capacity with no vendor holdbacks or drops in performance as capacity utilization increases, and significantly minimizes disk-related service events through a combination of preventive and self-healing capabilities. In addition, ISE technology achieves the industry’s most efficient performance and scalability, and enables users to cut their ongoing storage costs in half through its five-year hardware warranty and lower overall management costs.
