Bell Data of Japan Selects Exar
To power IP SAN/NAS BridgeSTOR appliance, with hardware-accelerated, de-dupe, compression and thin-provisioning
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 23, 2009 at 3:40 pmExar Corporation has been selected to provide the BitWackr solution to BELL DATA, Inc., a storage solution provider in Japan, for their new BridgeSTOR Deduplicating IP Network Storage Appliance. Exar’s BitWackr provides hardware-accelerated, deduplication and compression as well as thin-provisioning enabling BELL DATA to deliver the first block-based, in-line deduplication appliance for primary storage.
BridgeSTOR Powered by Hifn BitWackr
"Our BridgeSTOR appliance is breaking new ground in ease of use, efficiency and capabilities," said Hiroshi Onodera, president, BELL DATA. "Our customers will be able to save time and resources by implementing a BridgeSTOR storage appliance, powered by Exar’s BitWackr technology, in their network."
The BridgeSTOR appliance offers support for both NAS and IP SAN natively and through BitWackr delivers real-time, in-line deduplication and compression, reducing the amount of data written to disk. BridgeSTOR, utilizing BitWackr, provides an optimized storage solution for customers who are looking for greater efficiency from their storage networks. The BridgeSTOR appliance is offered in both standard and high availability configurations, with the latter featuring active/active failover and full integration with Microsoft’s Multi Path IO (MPIO) capability. BELL DATA has also included in the BridgeSTOR appliance the Exar Hifn Express DS 4100 secure multi-gigabit server adapter for encrypting and compressing data in flight, offloading the host CPU, and providing up to a two to one compression ratio to optimize the efficiency of secure replication.
"We are excited to be an integral part of BridgeSTOR, the industry’s first block-based, inline deduplication appliance for primary storage," said John Matze, vice president, storage systems products, Exar. "The BitWackr technology offers our partners and customers a very quick and easy way to expand their product offerings to include deduplication, and compression."
About BitWackr
BitWackr combines the company’s Hifn Express DR card that employs specialized hardware to perform data compression and deduplication hash operations with advanced block-based data deduplication software. The server platform-independent solution operates in a standard Windows environment and can be installed on systems running Windows Server 2003, Windows Storage Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 with support for both 32- and 64-bit versions. BitWackr deduplication is a simple set-it-and-forget-it solution that operates transparently within a Windows server environment using an intuitive GUI. Deduplication is performed globally, across all NAS and iSCSI volumes created on a single BridgeSTOR appliance.
About Express DS 4100
The Express DS 4100 secure multi-gigabit server adapter with compression reduces costly bandwidth requirements by 50% and slashes remote replication and backup time by enabling a typical two to one compression ratio, along with encryption, for data transfers across unsecured networks. The Express DS 4100 offers dual Gigabit Ethernet connections that automatically provide CPU offload for data compression and security. The innovative design uses the company’s patent-pending FlowThrough processor architecture to deliver hardware accelerated security and compression transparently, while drawing less than 10 watts of power. The DS 4100 extends Exar’s leadership in hardware-accelerated compression cards to secure bandwidth optimization applications.
