Ocarina Adds Content-Aware Compression and De-Dupe to HDS NAS

Ocarina Networks announced the availability of its industry-leading storage optimization solution for Hitachi Data Systems‘ latest midrange NAS models, the 3080 and 3090.

The combined solution with the Ocarina ECOsystem allows Hitachi Data Systems to deliver one of the most advanced yet cost-effective midrange NAS solutions in the storage industry.

The Ocarina ECOsystem for Hitachi Data Systems seamlessly integrates with the Hitachi NAS family, including the newly released 3080 and 3090, as well as the existing Hitachi High-performance NAS 3100 and 3200. The combined solution provides a cost effective way for customers to keep pace with massive data growth by dramatically increasing effective storage capacity, with little to no impact on file serving performance.

The Ocarina ECOsystem is the world’s first content-aware optimization technology to deliver up to a 10-to-1 reduction in the size of files, such as MS Office documents, PDFs, ZIPs, and rich media that are driving the growth of online storage. Generic compression and block de-duplication solutions are often unable to address the main drivers of storage growth: media files, pre-compressed files such as Microsoft Office and ZIP, as well as industry-specific file types for energy, film-making, and life sciences.
