Actidata, New German LTO and RDX Distributor
Headed by Gudmundur Einarsson, former CEO of competitor Tandberg (which is not happy)

The Dortmund-based company which is entering the market as a manufacturer and solutions provider in the areas of storage, backup and archiving is new; actidata, however, is starting with a team of experienced storage experts who have profound technical know-how, in-depth market knowledge and long-standing contacts in the IT channel.
CEO of the actidata Group and Managing Director of the newly founded actidata GmbH is Gudmundur Einarsson, who previously worked 8 years for Tandberg Data, culminating in the positions of CEO (up to 2007) and member of the supervisory board (till 2008). At the core of his new team which is responsible for the G/A/S, BeNeLux, and Eastern European countries are Detlef Samieske (Sales Director Central Europe), Jörn Blöß (Area Sales Manager), Andreas Fink (Area Sales Manager), Arthur Kilian (Sales Director Eastern Europe) and Heiko Wippich (Pre Sales & Product Manager). Guido Forsthövel has taken on the position of actidata Marketing Director.
Gudmundur Einarsson explains actidata’s approach: "The actidata team consists solely of motivated members with many years of experience in the storage market and excellent knowledge of channel business. We’re convinced that actidata’s success will evolve from a high-quality product range with best possible price/performance ratio and good availability plus, and more than anything, the fact that we will practice close relationships with our customers. That means: actidata will keep in close dialogue with dealers and, as a lean and agile team, be able to react to the channel’s needs fast and with great flexibility." Einarsson continues: "Our first goal is to become a major player in the B2B storage segment."
The actidata product range covers tape drives, autoloaders, libraries and media. Coinciding with actidata’s market launch, the actiDisk RDX has already become available. It is a hard disk-based system for removable media. The RDX system consists of a robust, removable 2.5" hard disk cartridge and a docking station, which carries out backups as a tape cartridge. Owing to its ease of use the actiDisk RDX is ideally suited for application in small or medium sized companies. The internal and external drives are available with three different hard disk capacities (160 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB).
Sales of actidata products will be carried out exclusively via distribution partners and are now available at Actebis Peacock and Tarox. actidata is offering channel support with technical trainings which will commence soon and marketing and events support. Furthermore, project support activities can be realized at short notice.

Apparently, Frank Roszyk, former GM for product management at Tandberg
Data GmbH, was also supposed to work for actidata, founded by former
CEO of Tandberg. And the new company is selling about the same products
- RDX and LTO products - as Tandberg, and is headquartered in the same
city, Dortmund.
If you read the press release below, you will understand that Tandberg is not
happy at all to see the arrival of this new competitor. A German court
prohibited Roszyk to work with actidata until the end of 2009.

After seeing the press release distributed by Actidata GmbH earlier this week, Tandberg Data GmbH would like to communicate the result of legal action undertaken by Tandberg Data against Actidata and some of the people involved in Actidata.
On Wednesday, September 2nd, a hearing took place in a German court in the case of Tandberg Data GmbH against Frank Roszyk. As a result of the hearing, Mr Roszyk is prohibited to work in an independent or dependent capacity for actiData GmbH until the end of 2009. This includes any sales or marketing activities and activities related to the distribution of products, or development of products, in particular in cooperation with suppliers.
Tandberg Data has also been successful in obtaining injunctions in the Singapore High Court against Actidata, and some of its former employees involved in Actidata, in respect of confidential information, defamation, trademark infringement and passing-off.
