Data Domain’s Presentations on Mainframe Tape Replacement at SHARE 2009
With Luminex
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on August 20, 2009 at 3:49 pmData Domain, an EMC Corporation compan, announced presentations at three speaking sessions at the upcoming SHARE in Denver 2009 Conference. These discussions will cover a variety of topics related to deployment challenges of traditional tape-based backup processes and the wide range of benefits associated with inline deduplication storage as a more efficient backup, recovery and disaster recovery (DR) solution. Data Domain will be jointly presenting with executives from Luminex and Ingram Entertainment, a national distributor of home entertainment products. Ingram Entertainment’s IT department has chosen a combined Luminex Channel Gateway and Data Domain deduplication storage solution as a unified data protection and DR solution for its mainframe and open systems platforms.
SHARE in Denver provides a forum for enterprise and mainframe data center professionals to interact and to learn about issues most relevant to their business needs and goals. SHARE in Denver 2009 takes place August 23-28 at the Colorado Convention Center.
Session #1 Title: Maximizing Mainframe Storage Efficiencies with Deduplication
- Speakers: Randy Hopkins, Regional Data Domain SE Director and Tim Demonbreum, Mainframe Systems Administrator for Ingram Entertainment
- Date/Time/Location: Thursday, August 27 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. in Room 706 of the Colorado Convention Center
- Session Description: Data deduplication is a space-saving technology that is being used to dramatically improve storage efficiency in mainframe environments. This technical session addresses what data deduplication is, how it is performed, and the architectural choices available today. The topics covered include inline and post-processing approaches, fixed-length and variable-length segmentation, the availability and integrity of deduplicated data and the complementary use of virtualization and replication technologies. The session will also delve into recent mainframe trends associated with moving from tape to disk for more reliable and efficient backup and DR processes. Ingram Entertainment will share a case study that places these topics within a real-world IT environment setting.
Session #2 Title: Deduplication Makes DR Replication Practical
- Speakers: Art Tolsma, CEO for Luminex and Randy Hopkins, Regional Data Domain SE Director
- Date/Time/Location: Wednesday, August 26 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in Korbel 4-f of the Colorado Convention Center
- Session Description: Operators of mainframe data centers continue to look for ways to improve the reliability and performance of their mainframe backup and disaster recovery processes. This goal has become even more important in today’s economy in which data centers are required to do more with less, without operational disruptions and with minimal risk. This is the landscape in which deduplication storage systems have been widely deployed in enterprises small and large over the past several years. Attendees will learn how, with deduplication, companies can dramatically reduce backup data storage by an average factor of 20 and make remote data replication for DR practical while also eliminating costly and cumbersome physical tape, improving data security and reducing the backup window. Current customer examples will be provided to illustrate the benefits of Modern Mainframe Virtual Tape with Deduplication.
Session #3 Title: Data Deduplication Changes the Landscape for Mainframe Backup and DR
- Speakers: Art Tolsma, CEO for Luminex, Randy Hopkins, Regional Data Domain SE Director and Tim Demonbreum, Mainframe Systems Administrator for Ingram Entertainment
- Date/Time/Location: Tuesday, August 25 from 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. in Korbel 1-f of the Colorado Convention Center
