Iron Mountain Joins PCI Security Standards Council
To participate in standards-setting body protecting payment cardholder data
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on August 14, 2009 at 4:25 pmIron Mountain Incorporated has joined the PCI Security Standards Council as a participating organization.
Iron Mountain will now work with the Council to evolve the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) and other payment card data protection standards. Iron Mountain has been PCI compliant for its offsite data protection, records management and secure shredding solutions for the last three years.
The PCI DSS, endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc., requires merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit customer payment card data to adhere to information security controls and processes that ensure data integrity. More information on the Council and the standard can be found at www.pcisecuritystandards.org.
As a participating organization, Iron Mountain will have access to the latest payment card security standards from the Council, be able to provide feedback on the standards and join a growing community that now includes more than 500 organizations. In an era of increasingly sophisticated attacks on systems, adhering to the PCI DSS represents an entity’s best protection against data criminals.
“The PCI Security Standards Council is committed to helping everyone involved in the payment chain protect consumer payment data,” said Bob Russo, General Manager of the PCI Security Standards Council. “By participating in the standards setting process, Iron Mountain demonstrates they are playing an active part in this important end goal.”
“As a trusted partner to more than 100,000 organizations worldwide, safeguarding our customers’ information is our top priority,” said Joseph DeSalvo, senior vice president and Chief Security Officer for Iron Mountain. “Joining this Council provides us with a platform to further drive security and compliance standards to protect credit card information. We are thrilled to accept this unique leadership position on the Council, and we look forward to helping to shape the compliance dialogue surrounding the security of this sensitive data.”
