Altercare Said to Have Reduced Backup Time by Half on Backup Exec
After installing Diskeeper 2009 defragmentation software
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 24, 2009 at 3:29 pmDiskeeper Corporation announced the release of a new case study showing how Altercare, Inc. reduced backup time in half after installing Diskeeper 2009 on its systems.
Altercare specializes in providing advanced medical rehabilitation, skilled nursing care and quality assisted living. As a family-owned company, Altercare is dedicated to providing an environment of care, a comprehensive range of nursing care services, and compassionate and capable employees that meet the highest standards.
Altercare started experiencing performance related problems with its network when, after implementing a new disk-to-disk-to-tape server backup solution and after the addition of more servers onto the backup system, the free space got below 35%. At some point, nightly backups were continuing even during the following day. "If we hadn’t implemented Diskeeper EnterpriseServer when we did, our backup jobs would not have been able to complete within 24 hours," comments Bill Louth, senior system administrator at Altercare.
Some servers were taking 3 times longer to backup than before. The disk-to-disk performance was also affecting the disk-to-tape jobs reaching a point where they weren’t backing up data anymore. "Before Diskeeper the fragmentation got out of control," stated Louth.
Today, where volumes are constantly used 24/7, Diskeeper 2009 with InvisiTasking technology is the only solution that provides real-time defragmentation invisibly in the background. InvisiTasking is the proprietary processing technology behind Diskeeper software’s real-time operation, empowering the system to allocate its various resources (CPU, memory, disk, and network) separately to each individual process. This allows for overlapping use of separate resources; this means zero resources conflict.
Louth concluded: "Our nightly Backup Exec 12-hour window has been reduced by 6+ hours." Backup has thus been cut in half utilizing Diskeeper 2009.
