Alfresco and Caringo Announce ECM and Storage Solution
Able to scale to billions of files and petabytes of data, and developed by XeniT
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 17, 2009 at 3:13 pmAlfresco Software, Inc., in open source enterprise content management (ECM), and content storage software provider Caringo, Inc., introduced a combined solution for managing and storing content for billions of files and petabytes of data. Developed by XeniT, a partner of both companies, the Alfresco2CAStor connector is now available on Alfresco Forge, and Caringo is offering a free download of its CAStor content storage software for up to 4TB capacity.
CAStor’s unique software approach creates high-performance and massively scalable clustered storage on standard x86 server hardware. This provides customers with affordable content storage that can start with one terabyte and scale seamlessly into Petabytes as your business grows. CAStor’s built-in archive features ensure policy based retention and integrity to meet compliance mandates and guarantee accessibility well into the future.
In addition to maintaining robust storage capabilities, organizations must manage their content or information assets to ensure they are protected and accessible to support business activities and meet compliance requirements. The Alfresco2CAStor solution delivers a comprehensive infrastructure to manage business critical content and ensure it is retained and preserved in a compliant storage repository.
The interface, implemented by XeniT, is in production with Alfresco Enterprise Edition at one of the largest Belgian insurance companies, which is managing millions of documents and growing. The archive is continuously fed by high speed import programs, achieving input rates of up to 1,000 documents per minute. This includes finding or creating the appropriate space for the document and assigning the metadata and access rights. XeniT provides support contract and subscriptions for organizations implementing the interface in enterprise environments.
“The availability of an open source interface between Alfresco and CAStor enables organizations to realize the most complete and affordable solution for managing and archiving enterprise content,” said Derek Gascon, Caringo’s VP of Marketing. “The combined solution gives organizations the ability to manage across the whole of the content lifecycle – from creation through long-term preservation.”
“The Alfresco2CAStor connector allows organizations to benefit from highly-scalable, content addressable storage to automate their compliance and archiving requirements, all built on low cost commodity hardware,” commented John Powell, CEO of Alfresco Software. “XeniT’s contribution of the connector to the Alfresco Forge is a valuable addition to our focus on governance, retention and compliance.”
Alfresco and Caringo will be hosting a Content Lifecycle Management webinar on July 30. This webinar will include a demonstration of the Alfresco2CAStor connector.
