BlueArc and DataDirect Deliver Storage Options for HPC Customers

SiliconFS file system and storage platforms certified for interoperability with S2A

BlueArc Corp. announced that its SiliconFS file system and family of storage platforms have been certified for interoperability with Silicon Storage Architecture (S2A) Storage Systems from DataDirect Networks, Inc. (DDN). In addition, BlueArc has signed a reseller agreement with DDN and will immediately offer DDN-certified solutions to BlueArc customers. With this addition, BlueArc continues to expand its portfolio of storage technology choices and improves its ability to architect solutions tailored to specific customer environments.

"DataDirect Networks and BlueArc have made it easier for our customers to scale out HPC and media storage environments," said Jeff Denworth, vice president of marketing, DataDirect Networks. "Together, DDN storage technology and BlueArc solutions offer the industry’s highest storage densities and power efficiencies to just about any networked client. The combination offers an excellent value proposition to our customers."

For many years BlueArc has offered customers the ability to architect multiple Storage Tiers, each one tailored to specific application workloads, and to unify multiple tiers under a single namespace and management framework. Instead of islands of storage and vendor lock-in to a limited range of storage technologies, storage administrators may select from a broad range of available storage technologies to design solutions which fit best with application, user, or business requirements.

DataDirect Networks has been building storage technologies with industry-leading density, power, and data integrity features for over 10 years. Together with BlueArc’s scalable, unified network storage file system, these advantages are now available to network-attached storage (NAS) customers worldwide.

"BlueArc’s SiliconFS file system is known for powering centralized storage solutions for a diverse range of customer applications; the scale of the file system in terms of numbers of files, simultaneous users, and overall data capacity is unmatched," said Bridget Warwick, vice president of marketing for BlueArc. "In both HPC and corporate markets we are seeing rapid increases in demand for large-scale archival and second tier storage solutions with the highest possible density. The combination of DataDirect Networks and BlueArc offers unprecedented scalability and some very useful data integrity features. Together, our customers can build cost-effective storage tiers and gain real intelligence across all of their distributed data."
