Entry-Level Sun 7000 Flash-Powered System

Model 7310, from 12TB to 96TB, starts at $40,165.

Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced a new addition to the Sun Unified Storage family, taking this leading platform and making it accessible to all enterprises. The new Sun Storage 7310 is a comprehensive, Flash-powered storage system that includes leverages Hybrid Storage Pool capabilities to deliver breakthrough economics, simplicity and analytic insight to customers.

Many customers across wide range of industries have turned to the Sun Unified Storage family for simplicity and performance at breakthrough economics,” said John Fowler, executive vice-president, Systems, Sun Microsystems, Inc. “The new Sun Storage 7310 expands the line and opens up a door for customers to more widely deploy high availability clustered storage and experience the power and economic benefits of Unified Storage.”

The Sun Storage 7310 Unified Storage system is ideal for customers experiencing rapid data growth and who require dramatically easier ways to manage and scale their storage needs. These customers require mission-critical storage across a range of uses that includes Windows operating environments disaster recovery and Oracle databases.

New features within the Sun Storage 7310 storage system include:

  • Cluster option to support high availability application environments for continuous data access and to minimize the risk of business downtime;
  • Hybrid Storage Pool support – in addition to the maximum 64GB of DRAM cache, it can be configured with up to an additional 600GB of SSD cache (1.2TB for cluster version) for enhanced application performance;
  • DTrace Analytics software, standard across the entire Sun Storage 7000 family, which provides the industry’s only comprehensive and intuitive analytics environment. Sun has released a free test system simulator;
  • Three times (3x) less power consumption than traditional storage solutions;
  • Scalability up from 12TB to 96TB capacity with no interruption to system availability;
  • High network throughput with four 1Gb Ethernet ports per controller and optional 10Gb connectivity; Single controller offers two PCI slots for additional network or tape-backup connectivity for easy plug and play integration;
  • Sun Unified Storage Data Migration Services – Sun Professional Services consultants offer a range of capabilities from advisory services to fully-managed resilient infrastructures. These teams are available today to also evaluate current architectures, to identify, quantify and prioritize gaps and risks, as well as provide ongoing design assistance, best practices and management expertise.

The Sun Storage 7310 is available today and starts at a price of $40,165 (U.S. list price. All prices quoted are in U.S. dollars.)

This new 7310 model is positioned behind the 7110 (beginning at $10,000) and the 7210 ($34,995), and before the 7410 ($57,490 for a single 12TB node version and $89,490 for a clustered 12TB configuration).
