Siber Systems Now With Enterprise Version of GoodSync

A backup/sync software for businesses

Siber Systems, Inc., a company dedicated to providing computing productivity software for enterprises and individuals, announced the release of GoodSync Enterprise, the new business-ready version of its popular file synchronization and backup utility, at Interop 2009 in Las Vegas. GoodSync Enterprise is designed to reliably ensure that all employee computer files – local, remote or mobile – are automatically synchronized and readily available.

"Research shows that over 50% of enterprise data is stored on individual laptops or desktops and is not protected. GoodSync Enterprise is smart enough to capture and backup information – including data stored on laptops, thumb drives and desktops – without complicated procedures," said Bill Carey, Siber Systems VP of Marketing.  "Now you can be sure all your employee data is synchronized, secure and available."

Extremely flexible, GoodSync Enterprise can intelligently recognize storage devices and tie specific jobs to specific USB disks; for example, all marketing materials can be synchronized with a thumb drive, while all PowerPoint presentations and Access databases are synchronized with a portable hard drive.  Workers in different departments, different geographic locations, at a worksite, or who are telecommuting or on a mobile device, all have access to the right files in their proper context.  Furthermore, jobs linked to devices recognized by GoodSync Enterprise can be set up to start automatically once each device becomes available.

GoodSync Enterprise is easily controllable as well. Administrators can limit the scope of the GoodSync Enterprise functionality available to the users, for example, by disallowing them to perform synchronizations over the Internet. Folders and files are backed up in their native format, making data recovery fast and easy.

Enterprise-Class Scalability, Performance
GoodSync, which debuted in 2006 as a consumer product, has been downloaded over three million times by users around the world, winning top accolades for its reliability and simple command line interface. PC World says: "This sweet little sync/backup program is exceptionally easy to use," while NetworkWorld’s Marc Gibbs states that "We’ve looked at a number of data-synchronization tools and this has to be one of the easiest to use and one of the most reliable."

GoodSync Enterprise builds on the proven quality of GoodSync, adding both scalability and enterprise-class performance. Like its consumer version, GoodSync Enterprise synchronizes and/or backs up files between multiple computers or storage devises across LAN, WAN, FTP/SFTP and WebDAV. Yet it also delegates the main file synchronization workload to user workstations that usually host the data. Such a design eliminates a single point of failure, thereby drastically improving the survivability of corporate data compared to server-based solutions.

To complete its tasks, GoodSync Enterprise works at the file level, performing comparative analyses of files and deciding whether to leave them untouched or to copy each file from one location to another. If a conflict is detected–usually an indication that copies of the same file have changed in both locations – GoodSync Enterprise provides a choice of manual or automatic resolution mechanisms.

Easy Installation and Centralized Management
GoodSync Enterprise installation and activation can be completed using common software deployment mechanisms. Once successfully installed and activated, administrators can centrally configure GoodSync to run various synchronization and backup tasks using a variety of scheduling options. IT Administrators have the option to force synchronization or backup transparently for the user, employing command-line options executed as a part of a login script.  Using the GUI version, users can also set up their own synchronization tasks or assist in setting up their synchronization jobs, including automation rules.

To ensure administrative oversight, GoodSync Enterprise provides detailed status reports of every action taken. Administrators have access to this log through email alerts as well as from a specified central location.
