Storwize Uses Intel Xeon Processor 5500
Enhancing compression performance
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 18, 2009 at 3:39 pmStorwize, Inc., provider of real-time capacity optimization solutions, optimized their STN-OS operating system software to fully leverage the Intel Xeon processor 5500 series powerful hardware capabilities. Storwize solutions are deployed at hundreds of customer locations worldwide enabling organizations to achieve significant and immediate ROI by dramatically reducing their cost of storage and associated infrastructure footprint, power, cooling, and administrative costs.
Double-digit storage capacity growth and the current economic climate are forcing IT organizations to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of their entire infrastructure. IT organizations are looking to data reduction solutions to reduce their primary and secondary system costs and shortage of electricity for power and cooling, as well physical data center space. But, customers’ biggest concern is the impact data reduction may have on storage and application performance.
Unlike deduplication solutions from various vendors which are optimized for backup data, Storwize offers the industry’s only online data reduction solution based upon real-time compression providing customers direct, random-access to optimized data across primary and secondary storage tiers. Storwize appliances do not use any internal disk or compression hardware and their STN-OS is uniquely architected to be CPU-centric and software-based allowing software enhancements to drive continuous improvements in random-access throughput. Storwize who is a member of the Intel Software Partner Program is working with Intel Corporation to realize performance improvements of as much as 70% across multiple performance metrics after successfully integrating Intel micro-architecture.
“Delivering enterprise-class real-time online data reduction is a CPU intensive task,” said Gal Naor, CEO of Storwize. “Our software-centric architecture enables us to leverage the advancements in computing performance delivered by Intel to constantly enhance the business value of our solutions and extend our market leadership position.”
“Storwize takes advantage of the intelligent performance features in the new Intel Xeon processor 5500 series to deliver advanced capacity optimization solutions,” said Christos Georgiopoulos, general manager Intel’s Developer Relations Division. “We’re excited to work with leading software vendors like Storwize to bring the benefits of these processors to a broad set of customers.”
