“World’s Smallest” 3.5-Inch External HDD by Freecom
The Hard Drive XS, up to 1TB (€109)
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 18, 2009 at 3:41 pmFreecom launched the Hard Drive XS, an ultra-compact, 3.5” external hard drive which is designed to reliably expand users’ storage capacity without having to open up their computers. This latest addition to Freecom’s Hard Drive family is the world’s smallest 3.5” desktop hard drive and offers storage capacity of up to 1TB. This makes it perfect for both home users and professionals who want to back up their data or carry it on the move.
Designed in collaboration with acclaimed Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz, the sleek new Hard Drive XS is covered in a form-fitting rubber enclosure that ensures optimal grip and reduced vibration, combining functionality with refinement. The fanless system means the drive is almost silent and weighing in at just 860 grams, it is easy to transport and makes sharing data more convenient than ever. In addition, the Turbo USB 2.0 connection offers transfer speeds of up to 30 percent faster than competing solutions for downloading or uploading data.
As the big brother of the Freecom Mobile Drive XXS, which picked up both an iF product design award and a red dot design award ‘best of the best’ in 2009, the Hard Drive XS is the latest development in Freecom’s ongoing pursuit to make high quality storage more accessible and useable in any environment. By simply plugging the hard drive into a USB port on a computer, users can back up important data and store office work, digital photos, music and movies in one central location.
“With the explosion of Web 2.0 applications and new media – from digital photos and ‘home videos’ to downloaded music and TV programs, computer users are running out of places to store their data,” said Axel Lucassen, co-founder and executive senior VP of product line management and marketing. “Whether at home or in the office, space is one of the things we value most. The compact and stylish design of the Hard Drive XS takes up less room in your bag and looks sleek on your desk, but also provides plenty of extra storage for your data”.
Pricing and availability
The Hard Drive XS is available immediately in Europe in 500GB and 1TB capacities. The recommended retail price is 79 EUR and 109 EUR respectively.
