Synology Supports New 2.5-Inch HDDs and SSDs

80GB flash disks from Intel and 320GB from Transcend

Synology, Inc. broadened the compatibility of its 2009 Disk Station models by introducing seven new 2.5" SATA hard drives and two 2.5" solid-state drives (SSD) to their compatibility list, making the Synology Disk Stations quieter, more energy-efficient and more reliable than ever before.

The 2.5" SATA hard drives include Fujitsu MHZ2320BJ (320GB), Hitachi HTS723232L9A360 (320GB), Seagate ST9500325AS (500GB), ST9320421AS (320GB), ST9320325AS (320GB), Western Digital WD5000BEVT (500GB) and WD2500BEKT (250GB), while the 2.5" SSD drives include Transcend TS32GSSD25S-M (320GB) and Intel SSDSA2MH080G1GC (80GB).

All of the above models have successfully passed a series of stress and compatibility tests in the Synology laboratory. The compatible models can be used with the following Disk Stations equipped with the Synology 2.5" Disk Holder: DS409+, DS209+, DS209, DS209j, DS109+, DS109, and DS109j.

"When a 2.5" hard drive is put into our already quiet Disk Stations using the 2.5" Disk Holder, they become near silent," says Douglas Self, product specialist at Synology America Corp. "The quietness, low power consumption and increased reliability of the solid-state drives combine to make the Disk Stations a very attractive package for our customers who want an affordable, reliable and quiet storage solution."
