Omneon, Inc. announced that it is partnering with New York’s Tekserve and Hollywood’s Integrated Media Technologies (IMT) to deliver new workflow solutions targeted to the needs of the television and motion picture post-production market. "We’re very pleased to be aligned with Omneon, a market leader in the development of media server technology," said Matthew Cohen, co-owner of Tekserve, the leading Apple reseller on the East Coast. "Omneon has brought numerous innovations to the broadcast industry, and the company’s MediaGrid-based storage solutions for the post market offer exciting new shared edit workflow possibilities for the Mac-centric environments favored by our customers."

The Omneon MediaGrid edit solution allows post houses and television and corporate production departments to work with both Avid and Final Cut Pro editors simultaneously, using a single storage system to support edit-in-place work with either application. In addition to reducing the overall complexity and cost of media storage, this approach enables facilities to make better use of creative talent and editing tools within a more streamlined production workflow.

As content providers and production facilities look to increase their efficiency in delivering content via the Web and mobile platforms, they too seek faster and more streamlined workflows. The MediaGrid system employs parallel grid processing and integrates that processing power into the storage architecture to raise the bar for transcode performance in repurposing applications.

"Our customers want solutions that will enable them to distribute newly produced content across all digital media outlets, and the MediaGrid storage system supports this model of revenue generation," said Bruce Lyon, president and CEO of IMT. "Omneon is a top-tier developer of critical media technologies addressing our marketplace, and this partnership allows us to offer our customers a valuable combination of best-in-class media storage and powerful transcoding capability that together speed delivery to mobile and online video services."

The MediaGrid repurposing solution is ideal for facilities of any size looking to repurpose their existing libraries and new material for distribution to broadcast outlets, the Web, and handheld media players. By performing faster-than-real-time transcoding through highly automated handling of content, the MediaGrid system makes it easy for content providers, production facilities, and broadcasters to generate the varying acquisition, production, transmission, and delivery formats required to take full advantage of multiplatform media distribution. Smart drop folders enable automatic rule-based transcoding to one or more different formats within a single job, and Web-based reporting notifies users when the job has been completed.

"With its unique architecture and processing power, and the support of an excellent reseller network, the MediaGrid storage system is well established in the broadcast market," said Jason Danielson, Omneon senior director of market development for the post-production market. "As we extend our focus toward solutions for post-production, we’re confident that our new partnerships with Tekserve and IMT, both leading resellers in this market, will be valuable in increasing the visibility and reach of our storage solutions for post facilities."
