Peter Slocum VP of Engineering for 3par

Formerly at Vivotech and Brocade

3PAR announced the appointment of Peter Slocum to the position of Vice President of Engineering. Slocum has joined the 3PAR executive staff to assume responsibility for leading engineering development activity for the pioneering next-gen storage company. He has over twenty-five years of experience in building, managing, and leading top-flight engineering organizations within both large and small companies and brings a track record of driving engineering innovation that aligns perfectly with 3PAR’s goals, vision, and company culture.

Slocum comes to 3PAR from ViVOtech, a privately-held company, where he was the Senior Vice President of Engineering responsible for Engineering, Information Technology, and Customer Support. While at ViVOtech, Slocum successfully launched a number of hardware and software products for NFC-enabled mobile phones and RFID readers. Prior to ViVOtech, Slocum was at Brocade Communications, where he was Vice President of Systems Quality Assurance and Engineering Operations. Slocum also served as Vice President of Engineering at Cylink Corporation, a network security appliance company, and Octel Communications, a developer of voice processing systems sold worldwide. He has also held engineering roles at Silicon Graphics, MIPS Computer Systems, and Hewlett-Packard. Slocum has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

The role of Vice President of Engineering for 3PAR was previously held by 3PAR Founder Jeff Price, who has assumed the role of Chief Technical Officer responsible for System Design. Price joins fellow 3PAR Founder Ashok Singal who continues in his role as Chief Technical Officer responsible for System Architecture in the newly-expanded Office of the CTO at 3PAR.

"As a pioneer of storage for the virtual datacenter and cloud computing, 3PAR has led the development of new technologies that combine built-in virtualization with innovative hardware and software design," said Slocum. "This continued innovation leadership is crucial to furthering a cost-effective and agile utility storage platform for our customers."

"The appointment of Peter Slocum and the growth of our CTO office are exciting changes that clearly demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to extending the pioneering work we’ve done in areas such as thin technologies, clustering, and green storage," said David Scott, President and CEO for 3PAR. "In this economy, we believe that innovation is the way forward and holds the key to doing more with less."
