Isilon and da Vinci Showcase Real-Time 2K Digital Intermediate Color Enhancement
Combining NAS with Resolve Platform
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 23, 2009 at 3:52 pmIsilon Systems and da Vinci Systems LLC, a JDSU company and a provider of color enhancement and image restoration products, announced an integrated solution delivering the media and entertainment industry’s first NAS-based, real-time 2K digital intermediate (DI) color enhancement system. Combining Isilon IQ with da Vinci’s Resolve R-Series platform, the new solution creates a unified image processing workflow, providing real-time color enhancement of 2K video to significantly increase user productivity, accelerate production cycles, and enable more projects to be completed in less time.
The new solution will be demonstrated live at the 2009 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference in Las Vegas from April 19-23 in Isilon’s booth.
"In today’s demanding digital production environments, delays are simply unacceptable business practice," said Dean Lyon, vice president of marketing, da Vinci Systems. "To meet project deadlines while still accommodating new, increasingly data-intensive projects, production studios must adopt highly concurrent, real-time solutions that seamlessly integrate storage and production components. With Resolve and Isilon, studios can speed the color finishing process, while simultaneously expanding pipeline bandwidth to maximize new revenue opportunities."
The da Vinci Resolve platform assures high performance and unmatched quality for DI color grading across feature films, television, and commercials. When combined with Isilon IQ scale-out NAS, which furnishes 3.45 petabytes (PB) of capacity and up to 30 gigabytes per second (GBps) of performance in a single file system, Resolve creates a complete color enhancement solution that unifies disparate content silos to enable highly concurrent user access. By integrating Resolve with Isilon IQ’s efficient, easy-to-manage storage infrastructure, production studios can directly ingest content for immediate and concurrent access across a wide range of graphical processing options, all in real time, eliminating costly performance bottlenecks and storage management overhead. The combined Isilon IQ and Resolve color enhancement solution allows capacity and performance to be increased linearly or independently in 60 seconds or less, providing ‘pay as you grow’ scalability to power the most data-intensive image processing projects and enabling studios to adapt more quickly to changing business needs.
"Next-generation post-production studios compete in an industry driven by rapidly advancing technology, increasingly complex projects, and ever-shorter production cycles," said Ram Appalaraju, vice president of marketing, Isilon Systems. "To not only survive, but thrive in such an intensely competitive environment, these studios must take advantage of opportunities to accelerate workflow productivity while reducing costs. The combination of Isilon and Resolve enables studios to execute color enhancement projects in real-time, significantly increasing bandwidth to take on new projects and grow their business."
