DataDirect Networks Enhanced S2A Storage Systems
Increasing performance and reducing footprint
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 21, 2009 at 3:59 pmDataDirect Networks, Inc. announced increased performance capabilities of its Silicon Storage Architecture (S2A) family of storage products and offers new space-optimized configurations for the S2A9700 and S2A9900 to deliver DDN’s award-winning performance and storage density, using even less data center space.
Performance Advantage
Increased algorithms in the DirectOS v5.04 RAID can provide customers a 2x IOPS performance advantage with the flagship S2A9900, further enhancing transactional workloads and multi-threaded storage access, at no additional cost. Recipient of multiple awards, including Frost & Sullivan’s Digital Media Storage Innovation of the Year and HPCWire’s Best Product and Technology of the Year, the S2A9900 is the pinnacle of DDN’s S2A technology and is designed to thrive in content-rich environments, with unsurpassed performance and scalable capacity.
New performance enhancements to the S2A6620, firmware service pack 3 (SP3) enable over 300,000 random IOPS from cache and write bandwidth over 1.7GB/s from disk. In addition, the S2A6620 provides up to 30,000 IOPS to disk for small files and over 2GB/s of bandwidth for larger files and manages up to 60 drives. With an additional enclosure the S2A6620 can expand to 120 drives, up to 120TB capacity so users can manage and deploy the fewest number of systems. Designed specifically for mixed workloads, the S2A6620 midrange storage system delivers unrivaled storage bandwidth and IOPS coupled with maximum storage density to serve a variety of extreme storage environments.
Space Optimized Configurations
Reduce Data Center Footprint
Featuring the industry’s highest density storage enclosure, the S2A9700 and S2A9900 systems can now be configured to store up to 150 SAS, SATA and/or SSD hard disk drives in only 16U. This represents a 33 percent reduction in rackspace when deploying DDN’s industry leading S2A9000 systems, over other vendors’ systems. With this feature enhancement, DDN customer’s can deploy up to 6GB/s of storage performance and store up to 150TB in only 18U.
The S2A9700 and S2A9900 systems are capable of supporting up to 1,200 hard drives in just two data center floor tiles and can easily scale to over one petabyte for high-density, high-capacity storage pools.
“DDN applies the intelligence it has collected from more than 180 petabytes of successful storage deployments to continually optimize capacity and performance of our storage systems,” said Paul Bloch, President and Co-Founder, DataDirect Networks. “These enhancements to our award-winning S2A technology will provide immediate benefit for our customers and help them more cost-effectively and power-efficiently address their most extreme storage challenges."
