Removable 2TB HDDs for Idealstor D2D Backup Solutions
500GB increase in storage space per removable drive bay
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 10, 2009 at 3:58 pmIdealstor, manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup solutions, announced the release of a 2TB removable SATA disk for use with their line of removable disk backup devices. This new capacity disk can be used with any Idealstor backup system and offers a 500GB increase in storage space per removable drive bay from previously available capacities.
Idealstor manufactures removable disk backup systems that are designed to replace or augment tape backup. Systems range in capacity from 1 removable drive bay up to 8. This 2TB SATA disk brings the capacity of each Idealstor backup system up to a total of 16TB.
Unlike most disk to disk backup systems on the market today that are designed for storing data like NAS, SAN or RAID systems, Idealstor uses a combination of hardware and software to make the disks ejectable so they can be used for offsite storage of data and for disaster recovery. Idealstor media is unique in the removable disk market in that they utilize non-proprietary 3.5” SATA2 drives as backup media. This helps keep the total cost of ownership down for companies that use Idealstor for backup. In addition, for companies already using Idealstor, the 2TB disks will enable them to simply purchase larger disks as their data increases to expand the size of their system. The Idealstor 2TB SATA disks are available through Idealstor’s channel partners as a kit that includes the formatted disk and one Idealstor removable disk caddy.
“The 2TB disk media further extends our capacity advantage over or main competition which is tape,” said Nandan Arora, chief technology officer at Idealstor. “This new size disk means that our entry level product that competes head to head with technologies such as LTO-3 and LTO-4, the Teralyte, has a capacity of 2TB per removable drive bay without compression. This system has a retail price of $1995.00 so for a cost far less than that of a comparable tape system, companies can get larger capacities, faster transfer rates and in our opinion a much more reliable backup.”
