Enhancements to Atempo Live Backup

Web-based GUI and ability for multiple concurrent file restores and client-side configuration of backup policies

Atempo, Inc. announced several new user-oriented enhancements to Atempo Live Backup, giving end-users in mid-size and large organizations increased flexibility and self-control in the backup and recovery of data stored on their desktops and laptops. Live Backup 3.3 improves the overall end-user experience with new features that include a web-based recovery graphical user interface (GUI), the ability for multiple concurrent file restores and client-side configuration of backup policies. These capabilities simplify the data protection process for users and decrease the level of hands-on management by administrators.

Atempo Live Backup delivers continuous data protection (CDP) that automatically and continuously captures and tracks data modifications as they occur on any network-connected desktop or laptop. The software features a wide range of file recovery capabilities, including self-serve file restoration of lost or accidentally deleted files and complete system recovery.

Live Backup 3.3 introduces a new web-based GUI that gives end-users the ability to recover lost files from any other computer. This significant new function has multiple benefits, particularly for users who experience a complete workstation loss. Rather than waiting for administrators to perform a full disaster recovery process, these users now have the opportunity to immediately retrieve their critical data by simply logging on to the web platform and searching for their files. This remote recovery gives added convenience for users out of the office and away from their workstations. Those that need immediate access to a file can simply log on to the web recovery GUI to access their backed-up data, regardless of their location.

With so many digital assets stored locally on corporate workstations, end-user backup and recovery is more essential than ever to organizational data protection strategies,” said Mark Sutter, CTO of Atempo. “At the same time, end-user backup policies are most effective if the system is friendly to the users themselves. The rich new features in Live Backup 3.3 provide the greatest user experience to-date, and, in conjunction with the software’s powerful data protection capabilities, give customers a complete solution optimized for Windows or Mac environments.”

Atempo Live Backup 3.3 delivers added flexibility and efficiency with the ability for users to restore multiple files at the same time, rather than as separate recoveries. Also, administrators who wish to give users more control have the advantage of the software’s new client-side configuration, which now allows both Windows and Mac users to set-up their own backup policies by customizing unique inclusion and exclusion lists to determine the type of data that needs protection.

We have been very impressed with Atempo Live Backup’s ease of deployment of, as well as its stability and ease of use,” says Didier Martin, IT Manager for RTL Group in Belgium. “Another important feature is the continuous data protection technology which is completely transparent for the user. Thanks to Live Backup, we know that in the event of a lost or stolen laptop, or any hardware issues, we will be able to restore the system in a very short time.”

The software is further enhanced with Microsoft VSS technology to create more reliable checkpoints with fewer exceptions in the backup process. In addition to system checkpoints, Atempo Live Backup now offers data checkpoints, which represent a set of data at a particular point in time, and may be used in multi-file and folder recovery.

Atempo Live Backup 3.3 also delivers new support for Windows Server 2008. The software is now available.
