This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 18, 2009 at 3:49 pmSiliconSystems, Inc. announced its new SiliconDrive III solid-state storage technology platform. This new generation of SiliconSystems’ industry-leading SiliconDrive products features faster read/write speeds, increased capacities and mechanical scalability, which enables a wide range of markets and applications to benefit from the company’s award-winning advanced storage technology. SiliconDrive III is a true drop-in replacement for hard drives in data center and embedded system storage applications such as multimedia content delivery systems and data streaming media appliances.
SiliconDrive III products include 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) and Parallel ATA (PATA) and 1.8-inch SATA products that offer read speeds up to 100 megabytes per second (MBps) and write speeds to 80 MBps. The new products will be available beginning in the second quarter of 2009 in capacities up to 128 gigabytes (GB).
"SiliconSystems’ new SiliconDrive III solid-state drives are ideal for a broad range of data center, industrial and embedded system applications that require an advanced storage technology solution with mechanical scalability ranging from 2.5-inch drive form factors to smaller MiniBlade or CFast form factors," said Gary Drossel, vice president of product planning at SiliconSystems. "The faster speeds and larger capacities of SiliconDrive III are ideal for high-end Enterprise System OEM requirements, and help enable new multimedia data streaming applications such as IPTV, Video on Demand (VOD) and digital video surveillance appliances that require a high level of performance and reliability where failure is not an option."
For increased reliability, every SiliconDrive III product is integrated with SiliconSystems’ field-proven advanced storage technology, which includes the company’s patented PowerArmor, SiSMART and SolidStor technologies that address critical OEM design considerations such as the elimination of drive corruption due to power anomalies, the ability to monitor a SiliconDrive’s useable life in real-time and integrated advanced storage technologies that ensure data integrity and SSD life for multi-year product deployments.
