Hiring 30 employees of the defunct optical company
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 17, 2009 at 3:39 pmAlliance Storage Technologies, Inc. (ASTI) announced that integration plans involving the Plasmon assets are proceeding ahead of the planned schedule and the company is now actively shipping product for customer orders.
As ASTI progresses with their plan to provide UDO technology to the world wide market, they are experiencing very positive interest and feedback, validating that UDO technology has nestled a secure place for customers across many vertical markets as a superior technology for archive solutions. Several key highlights surrounding the restart of former Plasmon manufacturing operations involve the hiring of key personal released from Plasmon, initiating manufacturing of new libraries systems, and expanding ASTI sales and service operations to address the addition of the Plasmon product line
On January 13, 2009 Alliance Storage Technologies announced that it has completed the acquisition of all Plasmon assets, a trusted source
of data archiving systems for over 20 years. The asset acquisition includes the full line of Plasmon libraries, drives, media, parts, and related
inventory. With this acquisition, Alliance Storage Technologies has positioned itself as a leader in the long term data storage market, and will
continue to maintain and develop its technologies in the optical solutions market.
During the month of January, ASTI actively recruited and hired almost 30 former Plasmon personnel into key support, manufacturing, sales
and engineering positions. According to ASTI CEO and president, Chris Carr, “When we studied various disciplines within our newly acquired business, it became evident that ‘key’ individuals that previously played critical rolls in the success of Plasmon’s product line were required for our ASTI business support model. Those individuals were identified and offered full-time positions with ASTI and several more will be added in the near future. We are very excited to have these seasoned veterans on our team. We now have structured departments in place for manufacturing, technical support, inside sales, outside sales, and engineering to provide support for the best Optical storage solutions in the world.” All new hires are reporting to the former Plasmon manufacturing facility located in Colorado Springs, CO.
In early January, ASTI restarted manufacturing
of the Plasmon product line and has immediate availability
of the following product lines:
- Library systems,
- G Enterprise, GX Series Archive Appliance NAS systems,
- AAE, D Series, M Series, and 12 inch drives and library systems.
Media types available are:
- UDO-1 (WORM & R/W),
- UDO-2 (WORM & R/W),
- 5 ¼ MO (WORM & R/W),
- 12 inch – LM8000, LM6000, LM4000, LM1200.
Parts, repair services and upgrades are available for all the above supported systems.
The company intends to continue selling libraries with the Plasmon brand name to maintain continuity and build upon the legacy of exceptional quality, value and the reliability of Optical storage. In addition, ASTI is offering a full range of service plans for all existing Plasmon installed libraries and newly sold systems.
To ensure the highest level of service and support to consumers and partners, ASTI immediately rebuilt Plasmon’s US based support team responsible for technical and engineering support of the product lins. Customers under contract with ASTI are receiving excellent support from an experienced team with many years of history with th Plasmon product line, with access to all of the associated intellectual property such as firmware and software, which can not be duplicated by any other vendor, positioning ASTI as the only vendor able to provide complete, comprehensive support and maintenance services. In addition, projects involving the future development of the UDO technology are under review and plans are being formulated to restart Resarch & Development in key areas to advance optical storage to the next generation.
The ASTI sales-distribution model will leverage the experience and history of many qualified Plasmon resellers and service providers across the globe. ASTI is actively pursuing reseller agreements to establish comprehensive end-user representation in key vertical markets. Licensed resellers can now access an updated product catalog and price list for the Plasmon product line. ASTI wants to continue to manufacture UDO libraries in U.S. but the problem is that there is no more R&D in U.K. to design future generations of discs and drives for this optical technology.
