Solid State Disks (SSD) are becoming increasingly popular in IT deployments, and improvements in Flash technology and pricing are creating demand for different form factors and connectivity options. The RamSan-20 delivers a complete storage system on a PCIe card. As a PCIe Flash card, the RamSan-20 minimizes latency between the server’s processor and storage and is easily installed in minutes. The RamSan-20 delivers 450GB of usable Flash, making it the highest capacity enterprise class PCIe Flash card on the market today. To ensure the greatest possible performance and reliability, the RamSan-20 utilizes Single Level Cell (SLC) Flash.

The RamSan-20 offers unparalleled sustained performance, delivering 120,000 I/Os per second (IOPS) for random read operations. It transfers data faster than other Flash drives and hundreds of times faster than traditional mechanical hard drives. Due to its comprehensive on-board management suite, the RamSan-20 does not impact host resources, yet delivers extreme reliability and durability, ensuring data preservation even in the event of a server crash or power outage.

"Boosting the performance and storage capacity of enterprise solutions are common desires of users. OEMs, however, continually seek ways to add value to their solutions without costly up-front development effort and time," said Jeff Janukowicz, research manager for solid state drives at IDC. "By incorporating a PCIe Flash SSD solution, like the RamSan-20 from Texas Memory Systems, OEMs should be able to deliver a compelling and economical solution that delivers increased performance and improved reliability — an attractive combination for enterprise users."

The RamSan-20 offers a simple, economical choice for accelerating server-resident applications that require large, fast buffer areas and those that are random access intensive. Databases, video editing, financial modeling, data acquisition, scientific computing, and web content are some examples of applications that benefit.

"More users are looking to SSD as they demand greater application performance," said Woody Hutsell, President at Texas Memory Systems. "Beyond the Enterprise data center, the technology and cost improvements in Flash are stimulating demand. These factors, coupled with a growing desire to reduce space and power requirements with greener storage, led us to develop the RamSan-20. In this, our 14th generation of product, we have set the bar for PCIe Flash in terms of density, sustained performance, reliability, and independence from the host server."

The RamSan-20 is scheduled for general availability in early Q2 2009.
