VirtenSys Supports FC HBAs From QLogic
On its in PCIe I/O virtualization switches
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 2, 2009 at 3:21 pmVirtenSys, Ltd., in PCI Express-based I/O Virtualization (IOV) Switches for data centers, has broadened its portfolio of supported network interfaces to include Fibre Channel. Its IOV products now support Fibre Channel and Ethernet, providing access to both Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN). With this achievement, VirtenSys establishes its core technology and can now provide products that support multiple data center configurations and usage models. The VirtenSys IOV Switches virtualize the QLogic Fibre Channel Host Bus Adaptors (HBAs) among multiple physical servers, without requiring any changes be made to the servers, operating systems, HBAs or device drivers. QLogic Corp. products are installed in enterprise data centers in multiple vertical segments. VirtenSys will demonstrate its IOV products at VMworld Europe 2009 in The Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France.
"Our IOV products now support Ethernet and Fibre Channel, the two most commonly deployed networks in data centers," said Ahmet Houssein, president and CEO of VirtenSys. "QLogic is the leading supplier in the enterprise market of high-performance Fibre Channel HBAs. Their addition to our portfolio of supported I/O adapters follows closely on the heels of our recently announced support for the Intel 10GE Ethernet Controllers. We are now in a position to deliver products that can be deployed in a variety of IT infrastructures."
"QLogic Fibre Channel adapters are ideal for use in systems across multiple data center configurations," said Amit Vashi, Vice President of Marketing at QLogic. "The QLogic HBAs enable solutions such as the VirtenSys I/O Virtualization Switches to provide server customers with options for more I/O flexibility in their rack server deployments."
VirtenSys IOV products virtualize the I/O resources in the data center, improving I/O utilization to greater than 80 percent, substantially enhancing reliability, and reducing management and operational expense by 60 percent, I/O power and cooling by 65 percent, and equipment costs by 50 percent. The products also enhance and simplify data center management by dynamically allocating, sharing and migrating I/O resources among servers without requiring physical re-configuration or human intervention. Organizations can deploy the products immediately without disruption to their existing data center servers, networks or management processes, thus protecting their previous investments in IT infrastructure.
VirtenSys will continue to expand its portfolio of supported interfaces and I/O adapters and will soon launch its IOV Switches that support Fibre Channel, Ethernet as well as SAS/SATA interfaces. The products will be available in both rack-mount and blade server form-factors.
