Astute Storage Blade Passes Environmental Qualification Testing

For military standards

Astute Networks, Inc. announced that the company’s Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade product has successfully completed a series of environmental tests to ensure its products remain operational in shipboard installations subjected to shock, vibration and high impact. The Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade was tested within the Sun Netra CT900 ATCA Blade Server chassis and was enclosed in a specific rack mount configuration. All tests were performed by a third-party testing agency.

Following these thorough test procedures, the Astute Networks Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade meets the following military operating standards:

  • MIL-STD-810G: Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests
  • MIL-STD-740-1: Airborne Sound Measurements and Acceptance Criteria of Shipboard Equipment
  • MIL-S-901D: Shock Test, High-Impact Shipboard Machinery, Equipment, and Systems, Requirements for MIL-STD-167-1A: Mechanical Vibrations of Shipboard Equipment

Astute Networks’ Caspian Edge Storage Blade is a commercial off-the-shelf storage solution that provides superior reliability in the delivery of network-centric warfare and defense applications. Built on the standards of the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA), the Caspian features extremely high performance, rack density, low power consumption and is particularly easy to deploy and maintain.

"ATCA technology provides a standards-based platform for the myriad of tactical and non-tactical applications that are currently being deployed within the Department of Defense," said Anthony Robbins, vice president of federal sales, Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc. "Astute Networks’ Caspian Edge Storage Blade combined with products such as the Sun Netra CT900 ATCA Blade Server provides DoD customers with the utmost assurance that their mission-critical applications will remain operational and reliable under the most challenging of military environments."

"We are pleased that the Astute Networks Caspian Edge Storage Blade products have met these important qualifications, which further validates the importance of ATCA storage blade technology in the defense market," said Mike Heumann, vice president of sales and marketing, Astute Networks, Inc. "The Caspian product line is ideally suited for military deployments as it leverages existing ATCA infrastructure which allows for configuration flexibility while reducing operational costs."

"The Caspian product line was designed to meet the challenges of severe mechanical and electrical environments," said Keith Klarer, vice president of hardware engineering, Astute Networks, Inc. "Its robust mechanical design, use of high-quality materials and detailed testing enabled the product to meet stringent military requirements shortly after product introduction."
