Insight Investments Launches Insight Recall Service
New division for data replication and recovery services to medium-sized enterprises
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 20, 2009 at 3:45 pmInsight Investments Corp., an independent lessor of IT and medical equipment, announced formation of the Insight Recall Division to deliver dedicated storage-based data replication and recovery services to medium-sized enterprises.
Insight Recall provides a secure, cost-effective offsite data center that enables them to quickly recover data that might otherwise be lost because of system crashes, natural disasters or other causes. Company data is restored to full functionality in a minimum amount of time and at a cost that is significantly less than the high infrastructure and monitoring costs usually associated with replication services. A typical 200-employee company with 20 TB of data storage can pay as little as $2000 a month.
According to Chris Aliberti, Insight Investments’ senior vice president of sales, this new and unprecedented service is made possible by breakthrough WAN optimization technology complemented by a customer-dedicated transportable storage device installed at a Tier One secure data center that replicates the customer’s existing storage.
“We’ve assembled a highly trained, experienced team of technology experts,” Aliberti stated, “who can assess a customer’s data replication needs, determine which data files and data types require frequent replication, develop schedules for replicating data, and assist in configuring and operating a system to protect that critical data. As a result, enterprises can realize significant cost savings by using our service rather than building their own million-dollar data center.”
Each company’s data resides on a dedicated NetApp storage device reserved exclusively to them for maximum safety and protection. If a catastrophic data loss or system failure occurs, Insight Recall helps customers restore their replicated data by physically transferring it from the data center to the customer’s onsite network—a procedure that is faster and more accurate than transferring data over the Internet. As a result, lost data blocks or files are usually recovered and restored within a few minutes.
Replication features include:
- Monitoring constant data changes.
- Preparing changed data for transferring at scheduled intervals.
- Compressing, encrypting and transferring data over a VPN connection.
- Receiving, unpacking and storing newly arrived data at the Tier One Secure Data Center.
- Storing received data onto a dedicated storage device exclusively used for the firm’s data.
Restore features include:
- Permitting customers to view data requiring restoration as a virtual drive at the data center.
- Allowing customers to select blocks of data or files to restore.
- Preparing selected data for transfer.
- Compressing, encrypting and transferring data back to the customer’s facility over a VPN connection.
- Receiving, unpacking and writing data back onto the company’s internal systems.
Insight Recall’s veteran team of management consultants develops a replication plan that satisfies a customer’s unique needs and budgetary concerns. This includes determining which files require replication and establishing a schedule for transferring to the secure data center. Afterwards, Insight’s experienced technicians assist in installing the hardware and software required for the Recall Service.
