Imation Showcased National Media Lab and Storage Products
At West 2009

Co-sponsored by The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the U.S. Naval Institute, the show featured exhibits from more than 400 technology leaders and discussions by leading military experts. The NML functions as an independent and unbiased source for data storage consulting and information lifecycle management services. Based in an R&D facility located at Imation’s world headquarters in Oakdale, Minn., the lab is designed to support unique government requirements and is managed by storage experts who analyze and resolve data issues, customize storage solutions, and develop next-generation storage technology.

The NML serves as a storage consultant and information lifecycle management service provider and focuses on storage challenges facing the industry including performance and reliability of new storage systems; the best way to identify commercial-off-the-shelf or custom products for specific government applications; data distribution and preservation; data access; disaster recovery and business continuity planning; and crisis situations that require media stabilization for data recovery.
Also on display at West 2009 were Imation’s various storage solutions targeting the data elite for whom the combination of high-performance storage, usability and design are key.
Those products included:
- Imation Next-Generation Solid State Drive (SSD) Solutions and an easy-to-install SSD upgrade kit to help users transition from hard disk to high-performance SSD technology. Imation’s M-Class SSD drives and S-Class SSD drives will be available in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch configurations with capacities ranging from 32GB to 128GB.
- Imation Apollo Expert UX and Apollo Pro UX, portable hard drives offering up to 1.5 TB of capacity. For laptop users, the 2.5-inch Apollo Expert UX is a pocket-sized, portable hard drive sheathed in a protective skin with up to 500GB of capacity. For desktop users, the Apollo Pro UX is a 3.5-inch hard drive that will offer up to 1.5TB of capacity. Each stylish drive features an integrated patent-pending stand and unique benefits for backup and storage of data, video, music and photos.
- Imation’s portfolio of USB flash drives, including the Imation Pivot, Pivot Plus, Swivel and Atom flash drives. Built to last with a wide range of styles and features, the drives are designed to meet the portable storage needs of the most discerning user.
- Imation DataGuard rf Tape Tracking System that brings the range, reliability and accuracy of RFID (radio frequency identification) to tape storage. With its patent-pending RFID Volume and Serial Number (Vol-Ser) Labels, Imation combines proven technology into one robust and secure label that incorporates RFID technology, Vol-Ser number identification and advanced ultra-high frequency (UHF) support with an open system that works with any tape management platform.
