UCLA Laboratory of Neuro Imaging Maximizes With Crossroads ReadVerify Appliance

To obtain performance and utilization statistics for 277TB on tapes

Crossroads Systems, Inc. (PINK SHEETS: CRDS), a global leading provider of solutions to connect, protect, secure and restore data-at-rest, today announced that the University of California, Los Angles (UCLA) Laboratory of Neuro Imaging has deployed the Crossroads ReadVerify Appliance to obtain vital performance and utilization statistics surrounding more than 277 terabytes of stored data within its archive system.

ReadVerify Appliance is a simple plug-and-play appliance that monitors and reports on the performance, utilization and health of tape libraries, drives and media. It proactively alerts and provides storage administrators with detailed information on potential backup failure conditions, such as tape media errors or poorly performing tape drives. Establishing visibility for potential failure information allows organizations to maximize their existing tape assets and to take preventive measures to avoid storing data on defective media – resulting in substantial IT savings and proven ROI.

As one of the UCLA’s foremost research programs, the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging is continually developing, refining and validating neuroimaging strategies that accommodate different data acquisition methods, populations, laboratories and species. Relying upon a large data archive system to store high-resolution, time-varying, multidimensional datasets of the human brain, the laboratory’s IT team recognized the need to consistently evaluate the performance and condition of its tape media.

"Crossroads ReadVerify Appliance has provided statistical data on the health of our tape storage infrastructure and allowed us to achieve significant improvement in the performance and utilization of our backup and archival resources,” said Rico Magsipoc, CTO of the UCLA Laboratory of Neuro Imaging. “Because of our existing tape system infrastructure, we needed a tool that would be simple to install and wouldn’t require reconfiguration of any software applications. We installed RVA into our Fibre Channel SAN and within 60 minutes had it fully configured and gathering data on the health and performance of our entire tape storage system. It adds intelligence to an otherwise passive tape storage infrastructure.

UCLA’s Neuro Imaging Laboratory is a perfect example of the highly respected organizations turning to Crossroads ReadVerify Appliance in order to transform the monitoring of their backup infrastructure from a reactive process to a consistently proactive, reliable evaluation,” said Rob Sims, President and CEO of Crossroads Systems. “We’re pleased to see Crossroads ReadVerify Appliance directly assist in guaranteeing the accessibility and readability of vital medical and imaging data.”
