NTP Software Links QFS With Symantec Enterprise Vault

It provides policy-based control of file data.

NTP Software announced NTP Software UDA, an application that links NTP Software QFS, which provides policy-based control of file data (unstructured data), with Symantec Enterprise Vault, the email, file and content archiving platform.

NTP Software UDA, the latest addition to NTP Software’s product portfolio, enables employees to manually archive files into Enterprise Vault based on individual selections, or the user can select from a predefined set of criteria such as file size, age of last access, etc. (User-Driven Archiving – UDA). Customers may also choose to establish policies that automatically archive files as users reach their storage limits (Quota-Driven Archiving). Both methods allow companies to control storage and operating costs, and expedite backups by moving files from a primary storage environment to lower-cost tiered storage with Enterprise Vault.

Customers have different requirements for archiving from file systems and need options to either automate archival, to allow users to manually archive only business-relevant files or leverage a combination of both options,” said Simon Jelley, Senior Director, Enterprise Vault Product Management, Symantec. “The integration with NTP Software UDA enables end-users to drive which files are put into the archive based on the business value of the files.”

To build a bridge for Symantec’s existing customers, NTP Software has created a migration utility that can automate the movement of policies from Symantec Storage Exec to NTP Software QFS.

The ability to preserve our existing storage management strategies is critically important,” said David Hilton, CEO of Strategic Vision Corporation. “There is no way we would give up our storage management policies. The integration of policy-based management with Enterprise Vault greatly reduces the stress on our network and makes the total package very appealing.”

While most customers know Enterprise Vault for its e-mail management capabilities, it also has robust file archiving functionality”, said Brian Babineau, Senior Analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. “Our research indicates that organizations will archive over 80,000 petabytes of file data in the next three years – the challenge will be in identifying and properly managing this subset of content to reduce storage, compliance, and electronic discovery costs. NTP Software addresses this problem with its QFS and UDA solutions by allowing customers to manually or automatically move files into Enterprise Vault where they can be combined with e-mail for a unified corporate archive.

This integration with Symantec Enterprise Vault demonstrates our commitment to provide the IT solutions our customers need to meet their business requirements,” said Bruce Backa, CEO of NTP Software. “We believe that Storage Exec customers are on the cutting edge of managing and controlling file-based storage and NTP Software is committed to preserving and extending these benefits with our QFS product line. The integration of NTP Software QFS with Symantec Enterprise Vault File System Archiving via NTP Software UDA makes it much easier for customers to control costs and consolidate data so that it can be searched and leveraged as needed. With these two offerings, NTP Software continues its innovation in file-based storage management with the ultimate objective of helping customers reduce storage capital and operating costs.”
