HP Enhanced StorageWorks MSA and D2D Backup Systems
300GB SFF HDDs for the first one, low bandwidth replication for the second one
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 13, 2009 at 3:44 pmHP announced enhancements to the HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) and HP StorageWorks Disk-to-Disk (D2D) Backup System portfolios to help businesses better manage and protect their data. The new MSA offering featuring small form factor drives helps customers increase storage capacity and reduce costs. The new D2D enhancements lower risk by making low bandwidth replication a practical and cost-effective disaster recovery solution.
HP StorageWorks 2000fc G2 Modular Smart Array
The HP StorageWorks MSA2000fc G2 will support the new HP 300 gigabyte (GB) 10K serial attached SCSI (SAS) small form factor (SFF) 2.5 inch hard drive for maximum density and performance. Also included are a faster processor, higher capacity, increased snapshot capability as well as support for both the HP-UX and Open VMS operating systems and the high-end HP Integrity server line. HP is the long-standing leader in the hard disk drive space, shipping more SFF drives than any other vendor in the industry. The HP StorageWorks MSA2000fc G2 helps customers lower costs and improve infrastructure availability by:
- Providing high-performance and affordable shared storage/SAN solutions with the choice of Fibre Channel, iSCSI, or SAS for attaching to their existing host environment
- Starting with a very small storage configuration and using a modular approach to increase capacity as storage needs grow
- Relying on one vendor to provide an integrated and reliable server and storage solution
HP StorageWorks D2D2500 and D2D4000 Backup Systems
The HP StorageWorks D2D2500 and D2D4000 Backup Systems are available with low bandwidth replication, delivering the most affordable replication solution on the market for remote offices and data centers. Data replication allows companies to transfer data between sites for disaster recovery protection. Low bandwidth replication makes this feature more affordable by using standard low bandwidth telecommunication links.
The HP StorageWorks D2D2500
and D2D4000 Backup Systems help customers
lower business risk and reduce cost by:
- Protecting data in remote offices: Eliminates the need for local administrators to manage each remote office backup; reduces the cost of central management by allowing low bandwidth replication of deduplicated data
- Protecting data in data centers: Makes off-site disaster recovery more affordable, through low bandwidth transmission of only the deduplicated data to an offsite device
- Using HP Dynamic deduplication technology to reduce the amount of data needing to be replicated and allowing low bandwidth replication across lower cost lines
- Reducing overall costs with lower price points and a simpler replication licensing structure per target device
“Downtime is not an option for Parspro because we provide complete IT solutions for online bookmakers. We use an HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) for primary storage combined with an HP StorageWorks 2000 Modular Smart Array (MSA) for backup, and the combination works fantastically well," said Veigar Freyr Jokulsson, IT manager, Parspro Ltd. "We chose the MSA2000 because it was very affordable, easy to implement and reliable and we particularly liked the products snapshot and clone capability, which ensures data protection. There is no doubt that our investment in HP and the MSA2000 has made us a more attractive proposition in the extremely competitive online betting market. This new HP StorageWorks MSA product upgrade will offer even more reliability and value and I particularly like the MSA2000fc G2’s new web management interface, which will no doubt make the new product even more intuitive and easy to use
