At The Linley Tech Seminar
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 11, 2009 at 3:39 pmNetLogic Microsystems, Inc., in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, presented on 100G Ethernet PHY solutions at The Linley Group Seminar on ‘Carrier Ethernet Equipment Design‘ on Jan. 27, 2009 at the DoubleTree Hotel in San Jose, Calif. The event featured presentations by leading vendors addressing emerging markets and technologies including 100G Ethernet, packet optical transport, and Carrier Ethernet in access/backhaul. The seminar covered network processors, packet processors, transport processors, PHY components, intellectual property, and software stacks.
NetLogic Microsystems’ presentation focused on ‘100G Physical Layer Solutions for Next-Generation Ethernet and Optical Transport Networks (OTN)‘. A worldwide growth in broadband services and rich media content has resulted in significant bandwidth demands on carrier optical transport networks (OTN), as well as access aggregation networks for PON, DSL, Cable, 3G/4G mobile wireless and WiMAX. Leading service providers such as AT&T and Verizon Communications have announced early initiatives to test new 100G technologies over their existing networks. In addition, major data center network managers are moving to increase network throughputs to 40/100GE in order to support the exponential demand for video, peer-to-peer and virtualization services. NetLogic Microsystems discussed the state of 40G and 100G Ethernet standards and introduced its 40G/100G physical layer solution, which facilitates building out next-generation Carrier Ethernet equipment while offering a seamless upgrade path from today’s 10G Ethernet.
NetLogic Microsystems’ NLP10000 solution is the industry’s first 100G Ethernet PHY solution, and features a groundbreaking architecture and advanced circuit technologies to deliver the highest 100GE density, superior jitter performance and lower power consumption. The NLP10000 100G PHY solution offers customers unprecedented scalability to develop next-generation switches, routers and transport systems for data-center, metro and long-haul applications that require a 10X increase in performance while maximizing energy efficiency. The NLP10000 solution supports the draft specification of the IEEE 802.3ba 100Gb/s and 40Gb/s Ethernet Task Force, whose OEM members include Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems, Force10 Networks, Fujitsu, Huawei Technologies, Juniper Networks and Nortel Networks.
"Central to the development of a wide range of solutions, Carrier Ethernet technology enables new equipment types and higher-speed networks, from packet optical transport and Ethernet access to 100G Ethernet in the core," said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst with The Linley Group. "Rapidly evolving protocols and standards make it challenging for network-equipment vendors and service providers to stay on top of this dynamic area. Our seminar drills down into leading-edge Carrier Ethernet implementations, and we are glad to have NetLogic Microsystems present its industry’s first 100G Ethernet PHY solution as well as to discuss the technology and implementation challenges and solutions."
The seminar featured a presentation from Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group, highlighting Carrier Ethernet market and design trends. The event provided an open forum for discussion of the latest trends in the dynamic Carrier Ethernet market, and was intended for system designers, network-equipment vendors, OEMs, carriers, network service providers, press, and the financial community.
