Hostworks Selects Sorrento Networks Optical Transport Solution
For SAN deployment
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 5, 2009 at 3:45 pmHostworks, an application managed service provider in Australia, has chosen Sorrento Networks‘ GigaMux 3200 metro optical transport solution to address the storage area network (SAN) needs of one of its major customers in the public sector. As part of its continuing innovation to meet customer needs, this is first time Hostworks has linked a SAN at its own data centre with a SAN at a customer data centre.

To best serve its customer’s SAN architecture needs, Hostworks selected Sorrento’s GigaMux 3200 to connect the Hostworks data centre with the customer’s data centre on the other side of the city. The GigaMux 3200 uses dark fiber links to deliver multiple services of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (Gb) and 4 Gb fibre channel providing complete data centre to data centre connectivity for multi-site SAN replication.
"As well as being competitively priced, the GigaMux 3200 delivered all of the required specifications compared with competing products," said Marty Gauvin, managing director, Hostworks. "Sorrento also provided fast delivery and implementation. The unit was delivered from the US within two days and deployed within two weeks whereas other vendors were talking about timeframes of two to three months."
Gauvin continued: "Sorrento’s technology provides a high performance internetworking solution that was deployed in record time to meet the customer’s requirements, and delivered the fastest return on investment."
A protocol-independent design allows the GigaMux 3200 to transport and extend the traffic of SONET/SDH, layer 2/3 Ethernet and SAN simultaneously and in their native format. By supporting each traffic type natively, Hostworks can grow and evolve the network based on its customer’s SAN requirements. This level of scalability and multi-protocol support combined with a cost-effective price point made the GigaMux 3200 the clear choice for Hostworks.
"As bandwidth demands escalate and government mandates surrounding the maintenance of comprehensive records increase, SAN applications will continue to be a necessity for public sector agencies," said Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks. "And now more than ever, service providers and enterprises need a cost-effective way to meet these regulations and still be able to conduct business as usual. The GigaMux 3200 gives Hostworks the dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) intelligence they need to help their customers increase bandwidth and meet data storage policies."
