With dual GbE and 1.5GHZ processor within each device

Off site storage company, Datto, Inc. released its newest line of backup devices: the Z Series. Z Series Datto devices represent the future of data backup. The new model is the first NAS device targeted at both consumers and small businesses that uses the advanced ZFS file system. This allows users to automatically keep previous versions of their files through snapshots. The snapshots can be programmed to update as frequently as once every fifteen minutes and only use a small amount of disk space while doing so. The ZFS file system also enables the Z Series devices to proactively detect and prevent silent file corruption on the disk drive.

The newest Datto series contains a 1.5 GHZ processor, 1 GB of ram and dual gigabit Ethernet jacks in every device. The hardware used within the Z Series models represents a cutting edge and fast new way to back up data at an on and off-site location. Because Datto uses an advanced AJAX web interface, it is easy to change the settings of a device. If these features were not enough to win over their customers, Datto additionally offers clients the opportunity to receive a backup model containing two hard drives situated in a mirror configuration. This option, exclusive to the ‘ZR models,’ uses dual hard drives for local redundancy and improved performance.

Prior to its launch, Datto offered customers two models of a product designed to provide a reliable and secure method to backing up data in quantities of 100 and 500 Gigabytes. These models, entitled the ‘Datto Classic’ series, effectively ensure all vital information will be duplicated at an off-site location, therefore in the event of natural disaster or theft, all data may be quickly restored using the company’s 24 hour policy. The Classic Datto models provide a simple and easy solution to the dilemma of backing up data. The new line brings an innovative approach to data backup. By including new hardware and adding dual gigabit Ethernet, the Z Series effectively creates a total and revolutionary solution to keeping an off-site record of all data. Each device has unparalleled flexibility and performance, making it stand out against its competitor products.

This is an old press release, published last July 21, but we were just discovering this start-up and its interesting offering around cloud storage.

Based in Wilton, CT, privately-owned Datto was formed by a group of engineers in 2007 with the goal of changing the off-site backup market. The company said to have currently "customers from coast to coast across North America, ranging from government agencies to home users", for its original NAS devices designed to provide off-site backup and recovery. These Z Series products are probably the first ZFS-based storage solution for small businesses.

The 1TB ZR1000 NAS costs $1,149 and the service for offsite backup $100 per month. If these prices are high, the idea is great.
