Nexsan Enterprise SAS/SATA Storage Solution
Incorporating 42 drives in a 4U unit with MAID
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 26, 2009 at 3:37 pmNexsan announced SASBeast, a highly reliable enterprise-class green storage solution that is ideally suited for both transactional and high-capacity applications. SASBeast meets an increasing need in the market for a single solution that delivers both high performance and high capacity in a small footprint.
SASBeast provides customers with a flexible, energy-efficient and affordable storage system. It features up to 42 disks in just 4U, with up to 18.9TB of SAS capacity. At the heart of SASBeast is the proven Nexsan architecture that is now used throughout the growing Nexsan product family and is deployed in more than 21,000 systems in over 60 countries around the world. SASBeast also accommodates both SAS and SATA disks in a single chassis and provides simultaneous Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity and operating system independence.
The new solution gives customers unprecedented energy efficiency with new optimized cooling capabilities and Nexsan’s next-generation MAID technology, AutoMAID. AutoMAID can reduce data storage energy costs up to 60 percent without impacting application performance. With SASBeast, Nexsan is also introducing a new horizontal mid-plane design that promotes more efficient airflow, thus enabling the system to run significantly cooler and further improving energy savings and ensuring reliability.
Coming on the heels of new products like Assureon, DATABeast and The Edge, SASBeast is the latest example of Nexsan’s continued drive to innovate the design of highly reliable, high-performance green storage solutions. The new enterprise-class SASBeast easily meets the demands of transactional applications with high IOPS and the ability to scale to hundreds of terabytes of capacity in a single rack. This makes SASBeast ideal for applications utilizing Microsoft Exchange or SQL as well as those that involve large file servers and/or large amounts of content.
"With three product generations of field-proven storage systems now in use by governments, leading institutions and corporations of all sizes around the world, we’ve refined an advanced storage architecture that now stands as one of the most reliable in the industry," said Gary Watson, Chief Technical Officer, Nexsan Corporation. "SASBeast extends our reputation for performance, reliability, and affordability into the heart of the market for transactional applications within small to mid-size enterprises (SME). This storage system provides an ideal combination of density, reliability, energy-efficiency and affordability in a single system. Given the current pressure within every IT department to get even more out of every CAPEX dollar, the timing for SASBeast could not be more ideal."
Analyst Mark Peters of Enterprise Strategy Group concurs by saying: "In the current economic climate, we all know that users are looking for straightforward financial value, and that’s fine. But almost anyone can play that game. Nexsan, however, is concentrating its efforts on extending its financial value proposition while simultaneously adding a new level of inclusive functional value for users. Over the past year, the company has added impressive capabilities across its new products, and it is now offering demanding users a family of systems that appear to have it all by combining flexibility, affordability, scalability and energy-efficiency. SASBeast is another example of Nexsan designing new products that are ideally suited for a wide range of crucial and current applications in the SME market."
