Netgain Hosting Chooses Robobak
To provide data protection to 6,000 desktops worldwide
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 23, 2009 at 3:39 pmNetgain Hosting, a St. Cloud-based managed service provider with customers worldwide, has chosen ROBOBAK to help safeguard its customers’ corporate-critical data.
In doing so, Netgain said it would migrate to a more reliable and cost-effective disk-to-disk-based backup/recovery architecture, moving away from traditional tape-based backup. One company official said his firm was looking for a ‘star’ among data protection vendors, who would provide Netgain with modern technology, yet at cost-effective pricing.
"We were seeking capacity-based licensing, rather than licensing based on sites or desktops," said Scott Baynes, Netgain’s Chief Technology Officer. "We wanted to work with a vendor capable of handling our rapid growth; per-node licensing was going to be a showstopper. ROBOBAK understood our challenges, and was able to work with us."
Baynes chose ROBOBAK’s v9 Data Protection Suite software, and is in the process of agentlessly deploying it to protect the data of more than 4,000 desktop users worldwide, with another 2,000 users expected to be added in the near future.
"We were impressed by the breadth of ROBOBAK’s core feature set, including its ability to protect open files. That’s something that other vendors simply didn’t have, or would have charged us extra to provide," Baynes said. He also cited ROBOBAK’s at-the-source file de-deduplication, encryption, replication, archiving as key features that impressed Netgain, as well as its recently-introduced TBO-E functionality for Exchange, which cuts the time required for full remote backups of Microsoft Exchange databases by up to 90 percent or more. TBO-E makes it possible for storage administrators to once again get a handle on email data protection requirements that have been increasingly spiraling out of control.
Baynes also said it was far easier working with the ROBOBAK team than those from other vendors. "Other companies proved unwilling to partner or show any flexibility. ROBOBAK’s personnel were ready to work with us; other firms weren’t ready to commit to that level of partnership."
"We’ve always regarded the customer experience as a critical factor in our success," said Ron Roberts, ROBOBAK’s President and Chief Executive Officer. "By breaking down potential roadblocks and building cooperation, we work to make it easier to do business with us." He noted that attitude as a significant factor in ROBOBAK’s growth; the company recently reported that its customer base grew last year by more than 300 percent.
