STORServer Agent for VMware Consolidated Backup
Third round of upgrades includes new license server and online help system.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 19, 2008 at 3:24 pmSTORServer, Inc. manufacturer of the all-in-one suite of business continuity appliances, announces new enhancements to the STORServer Agent for VMware Consolidated Backup, which increase usability and performance. Highlights of these upgrades include a new license server and online help system.
Introduced in September 2007, the STORServer Agent for VMware Consolidated Backup is the only complete solution on the market to integrate IBM’s Tivoli Storage Manager and VMware Consolidated Backup.
To address the challenges of protecting VMware environments, the Agent improves the usability of Consolidated Backup by providing centralized management, reporting and scheduling of virtual machine backups and eliminates cumbersome pre- and post-processing integration scripts.
The Agent includes an easy to use graphical user interface for the management and reporting of virtual machine backups; a robust scheduler; and a database containing client configurations, logs and scheduling information.
After two previous upgrades, the Agent’s new license server allows users to manage licenses and track usage by purchasing the exact number of licenses needed for VM guests. This component can be installed during Agent server installation. Sites with multiple proxy servers can manage all Agent servers with a single license server, downloadable from the STORServer FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site. Each server Agent can then be configured to use a particular license server by modifying values on the new license server tab in the improved Settings dialog box.
The latest version also provides an online help support system replacing the previous user’s guide. Other notable new features include updates to the x64 install, improved repainting speed of the status tab, automated support notification and an improved program launch.
“Each new round of enhancements to the Agent improves the entire user experience and we’re really pleased with what our team has been able to do with version three,” said Laura Buckley, president and chief operating officer of STORServer. “Our clients can now better utilize the Agent to save valuable time and resources, which is incredibly important in today’s economic climate.”
Version three of the STORServer Agent for VMware Consolidated Backup is available now. Pricing starts at $1,598 and is based on the number of virtual machines being managed. The Agent is included in the STORServer Appliance for VMware Consolidated backup or can be purchased separately for existing Tivoli Storage Manager installations.
