Harel Kodesh President of EMC’s Cloud Infrastructure Business and CEO of Decho

He is a former Amdocs and Microsoft executive.

EMC Corporation announced the appointment of Harel Kodesh as President of EMC’s Cloud Infrastructure Business. Kodesh will be responsible for the growth and development of EMC’s global cloud infrastructure products and solutions and for the expansion of the business’ partner eco-system. Kodesh will also serve as the CEO of Decho, the recently-created EMC subsidiary focused on personal information management in the ‘cloud.’ Decho (short for ‘digital echo’) helps individuals protect, manage and enrich the ever-growing quantity of personal digital information. As a member of EMC’s executive management team, Kodesh will report to Joe Tucci, EMC Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.

"We believe EMC is among the rare few to possess the foundational technologies, vision and fiscal strength required to succeed as a leading cloud infrastructure and services provider," said Tucci. "Harel’s depth of industry and business management experience, combined with his extensive expertise designing and developing enterprise and consumer-class information management products will serve as tremendous asset to customers and shareholders as we embark into our next phase of technology innovation. We’re very fortunate to have an executive of Harel’s caliber join the EMC management team."

"This is a remarkable time in the history of computing. Individual consumers and businesses are faced with managing and benefiting from what feels like an open flood of digital information," said Kodesh. "This has resulted in a wave of demand for cloud-based infrastructure and service offerings that deliver easy and full utilization, protection, organization and enrichment of important personal and business information. I have been impressed with the broad and deep talent and resources that EMC has already marshaled in this space, and I’m looking forward to helping EMC enhance its lead in this market."

Kodesh, 50, previously served as Chief Product Officer at Amdocs, Inc., a leading provider of software and services to the communications industry, where he was responsible for the research and development of the company’s global product strategy, development programs, architectures and applications. Prior to Amdocs, Kodesh held a variety of executive positions at Microsoft, including Vice President of the Information Appliance Division. At Microsoft, he founded the Windows CE operating system and led the development and marketing of this operating system and a wide range of products based on this technology. Kodesh also served as President and CEO of Wingcast, Inc, a company formed by Qualcomm and Ford Motor Company to provide services for sending, receiving and storing information via telecommunication devices to the automotive industry. Kodesh earned a master’s in electrical engineering and bachelor’s in computer engineering from the Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel.

In November, EMC combined two formerly separate EMC businesses — Mozy, Inc. and Pi Corp — to form Decho, a company that helps individuals protect, manage and enrich the ever-growing quantity of personal digital information in their lives. Also last month, EMC introduced the EMC Atmos cloud storage infrastructure solution, which enables Web 2.0 and Internet providers, telecommunications, media and entertainment companies to securely build and deliver cloud-based information-centric services and applications at massive scale by providing the capabilities of centralized management and automated placement of information globally.
