HP Selects Removable HDD Enclosure From CRU-DataPort
As an option for its xw4600, xw6600, xw8600 and xw9400
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 16, 2008 at 3:38 pmAfter several months of evaluating removable storage solutions, Hewlett-Packard selects the high performance Data Express DX115 SAS/SATA removable hard drive enclosure from CRU-DataPort. The DX115 will be the standardized removable solution for both HP Workstations and Business Desktop PCs. The endorsement by HP offers CRU-DataPort invaluable credibility and positive exposure with the reseller community and OEMs.
The rugged steel DX115 enclosure is a compact, economical, hot swappable drive carrier and receiving frame for internally mounting a low-profile (up to 1" high), 3.5" form factor drive into any half-height, 5.25" peripheral bay. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) receiving frames accept SAS and Serial ATA (SATA) 3GB/s drive carriers for added flexibility and cost efficiency. Data Express removable enclosures are designed specifically to accommodate a variety of PC chassis bay dimensions. The DX115 is an ideal application for drive swapping, transporting, security, backup, testing and audio/video editing. Installation is as easy as inserting the carrier into the frame, turning the key lock and pressing the power button.
"Including the CRU-DataPort DX115 with the HP Workstation 8600 Series will be a benefit for both resellers and end users," says Brian Deeley, Manager of Graymar Business Solutions and HP Enterprise Class Partner. "Our customers regularly require CRU-DataPort removable drive enclosures and now they will have the convenience of receiving them integrated into their HP Workstation or desktop platform." Dan Bovee, Vice President of Sales for CRU-DataPort asserts: "I’m thrilled by the tremendous endorsement from the HP engineering team in selecting the DX115 as their removable hard drive enclosure for HP Workstations and desktop platforms sold in North America." It is available as a customer installable option on the HP xw4600, xw6600, xw8600 and xw9400 in North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

In a way, the CRU-DataPort DX115 becomes a competitor for the ProStor RDX also offered as an option by HP that got it from Tandberg Data. The main difference between the two products is that the RDX uses smaller SATA HDDs, in 2.5-inch form factor, as the DX115 is based on SAS or SATA 3.5-inch units only.
