Zmanda With Sun
To launch backup solutions based on OpenSolaris ZFS
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 15, 2008 at 3:55 pmZmanda announced that both Amanda Enterprise and Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL are fully supported and certified on the OpenSolaris 2008.11 platform, which was announced by Sun Microsystems, and will be available in OpenSolaris repositories.
The combination of Zmanda’s robust backup solutions with Sun’s innovative OpenSolaris operating system, including the advanced ZFS file system, creates one of the most advanced backup-to-disk offerings available on the market today. Specifically, the snapshot capability of ZFS enables fast and scalable backups of today’s most demanding workloads.
“With the new features and record-breaking performance introduced in OpenSolaris 2008.11, Sun demonstrates its commitment to rapidly innovating on the open source ecosystem. The combination of Sun’s enhanced cutting-edge OpenSolaris platform with Zmanda’s data protection portfolio, offers customers an easy-to-deploy seamless solution,” said Jim McHugh, vice president of marketing, Datacenter, Sun Microsystems.“OpenSolaris is the open platform of the future, and Sun is focused on sustained acceleration in this domain to meet the spiraling needs of the community and customers alike.”
Amanda Enterprise is an enterprise-grade network backup solution based on Amanda, the world’s most popular open source data backup and recovery software. It is a powerful, low-cost, open source solution that protects OpenSolaris, Solaris, Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X environments using a single management console.
“OpenSolaris is one of the most innovative operating system available on the market today and is an ideal platform for next generation storage infrastructures,” said Chander Kant, chief executive officer and founder, Zmanda. “Zmanda is excited about the progress Sun has made in building an ecosystem around leading open source technologies including OpenSolaris and MySQL and we will play our part in protecting this ecosystem.”
ZRM for MySQL is the first mission-critical backup and recovery solution designed specifically for MySQL databases. ZRM includes unique, enterprise-grade features such as MySQL storage engine and snapshot intelligence, replication support, and integration of backup operations with MySQL binary logs. ZRM comes with the Zmanda Management Console — a powerful Web-based graphical user interface that lets DBAs control backup and recovery across all MySQL servers from any browser enabled device.
