Source Code, a 13-year veteran OEM contractor and manufacturer, selected JMR’s revolutionary and patented BlueStor PeSAN PCIe based storage solutions over competing technologies after intense, in-house testing due to its unique design, very fast performance, superior scalability and high availability.
JMR’s BlueStor PeSAN technology is a wide bandwidth, high performance and extremely scalable storage technology using a switched architecture that eliminates costly storage bus bridges or components like SCSI or Fibre Channel. The open system architecture based PeSAN solution delivers extremely high performance with cost-efficient implementation, driving storage costs down to well below one dollar per Gigabyte.
"In our in-house tests, we were getting substantially higher performance numbers compared with other prominent vendors’ products in similar configurations," said David Lebov, vice president of sales at Source Code. "JMR did an excellent job in the design – especially in regard to vibration dampening compared to competitors. Ultimately, when you’re reading and writing to hard drives, vibration will make a major difference in the performance that you get out of the hard drives – resulting in higher system reliability."
Previously encountering throughput problems when expanding capacity and performance of competing storage arrays and the associated decrease in reliability, Source Code found that JMR’s solution scaled seamlessly with no drop in performance.
"In many cases there were certain drives from different manufacturers that we couldn’t get to work on the SATA side at all," added Lebov. "We found that we didn’t have that issue with JMR. By using the PeSAN technology, we’re able to utilize the full bandwidth available on the PCIe bus.JMR’s reliability and scalability were second to none, and we thought the product scaled better than anything we’ve seen yet."
With a design that dramatically decreases vibration, resulting in decreased drive failures and increased performance, JMR’s BlueStor PeSAN technology is gaining rapid acceptance in the market and leading the push toward PCIe based storage solutions.
"We are excited to partner with Source Code, as they are one of the most technologically advanced system integrators around," noted Josef Rabinovitz, president and CEO of JMR. "Their customer-base is second to none, and their praise for PeSAN technology validates what we have known for some time – that innovative PCIe-based solutions are the future, and that we can provide enterprise-level performance at a far lower price point than comparable technologies."
Along with revolutionary design, Source Code also selected JMR due to its company’s overall quality and commitment to first-class support.
"It’s important to us that we partner with companies that don’t just have leading technologies, but the character and work ethic of a company that’s going to stand behind you and be there when you need help," concluded Lebov. "That’s really what we sell."
About BlueStor PeSAN
Fully SES 2.0 compliant, JMR’s BlueStor PeSAN technology remotes the PCIe bus from the host server to the storage shelf allowing the user to plug in any PCIe device into the remote PCIe slot in the PeSAN I/O module. Users can also swap RAID controllers on the fly without opening the server, shutting down power, or re-booting. The RAID controller is in a hot-swappable module that easily plugs into the PeSAN without the need for tools. PeSAN includes SAS Expansion built in, supporting 16 disk drives in each storage shelf, and can be concatenated using standard external multilane SAS cables to additional storage shelves.
For optimum performance in large scale storage systems, BlueStor PeSAN powered RAIDs may be expanded to 256 targets (up to 4096 disk drives) using JMR PeSAN Switches, available concurrently with the RAID storage product.
BlueStor RAID powered by PeSAN technology uses the RAID controller’s Graphical User Interface (GUI) for array and enclosure management. Features vary by product, and JMR maintains an active compatibility list of proven technology partners. BlueStor also provides an exceptional Physical User Interface (PUI), which includes individual drive status, power status, fan status and PCIe link status – good or fail – making problems easily identified at a glance. The easy to access front panel power and alarm reset switches and real-time disk drive activity indicators keep day-to-day operations simple and convenient.
Implemented into the storage infrastructure – the PCIe standard will dramatically improve performance and workflow efficiencies, as well as lowering the total cost of ownership due to the dramatic decrease in footprint, heat and cooling needs. This coupled with massive price decreases provides a clear alternative to expensive InfiniBand, Fibre Channel and SCSI solutions.
