Sonnet Drops Prices Up to 40%

For its Fusion F2 portable two-drive RAID SATA systems

Sonnet Technologie, Inc. announced price drops for the company’s acclaimed Fusion F2 portable two-drive RAID SATA storage systems. The recipient of numerous industry awards, the compact Fusion F2 is the fastest storage solution of its kind, delivering unparalleled performance with up to 134 MB/sec read and write sustained data transfer rates. Sonnet has cut the price of the Fusion F2 1TB model to $599, a reduction of $400, and has reduced the Fusion F2 640MB model’s price to $399, a savings of $200.

"The rugged design and diminutive size of the Fusion F2, along with its bus-powered operation, allows media professionals to adopt highly efficient and cost-effective workflows for capturing and storing both still and moving images, both in the studio and on location," said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. "This product’s exceptional performance has made it enormously popular with media professionals and companies alike. We have leveraged economies of scale and improved materials pricing to address the quickly rising demand for this versatile storage system and to make its many benefits available to a wider range of users."

The cool, quiet, and energy-efficient Fusion F2 features two 2.5-inch SATA drives mounted in a tough aluminum enclosure just a bit larger than two stacked CD cases. Side-by-side placement of its drives increases the metal case’s cooling surface area, thereby eliminating the need for a fan and allowing the unit to be bus-powered when no grid power is available. As a result, the Fusion F2 can be used in virtually any environment. Each of the Fusion F2’s high-performance drives is individually shock-isolated, not only protecting the drives during transport, but also virtually eliminating cross-coupled vibration — a potential source of soft-error-induced skipped frames in video capture and playback.

The Fusion F2 features two eSATA data ports for maximum data throughput and is designed for use with the new Sonnet Tempo™ SATA Pro ExpressCard/34 or Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 controllers for MacBook Pro and Windows notebooks. By transmitting data via its two-port SATA interface, Fusion F2 handily supports portable video capture in conjunction with an AJA Video Systems ioHD, which requires dedicated use of FireWire bandwidth.
