Fujitsu to Pursue SCSI HDDs Until the End of 2010

For enterprise 15,000rpm 3.5-inch units only

Fujitsu Europe Limited announced the availability of its 3.5-inch Parallel-SCSI drives until the end of 2010. Despite the market’s anticipated production stop of 3.5-inch Parallel-SCSI drives by end of March 2009, Fujitsu continues its production and delivery of 3.5-inch Parallel-SCSI hard drives until the end of calendar year 2010. This extension applies to Fujitsu’s 3.5-inch HDD series MBA3-NC/NP with 15,000-RPM spindle speed, 73.5GB to 300GB* storage capacities and U320-SCA 80-Pin (NC) as well as U320-LVD 68-Pin (NP) interfaces. These drives are designed for sophisticated high-end applications primarily in enterprise server and network system environments.

Especially in current times of economic stagnation and mounting competition, businesses must consider their IT investments, such as new HDD installations and modifications, very carefully. Many companies will have to operate on smaller budgets this coming year and can invest in only the most crucial projects. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives are the serial replacement of parallel SCSI busses, designed for the professional server application in enterprises as well as industrial environments. The parallel SCSI interfaces are increasingly replaced by serial SAS interfaces.

Modifying IT infrastructures with new technologies can be a cost involving process. “We make every effort in assisting our customers in their decision of either upgrading their systems with new SAS series now or to wait and extend the use of parallel drives. This especially applies prior to this interface changeover. We are the appropriate partner for a gentle upgrade from parallel to serial SCSI – even during a slow economy”, says Georg Dietsch, Director EMEA Storage Products Group at Fujitsu.
