This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 25, 2008 at 3:44 pmARTEC Computer GmbH announced the release EMA version 3.41. The update includes many additions and enhancements, such as support for more mail servers and the ability for administrators to create and save search definitions for later use.
Below is a detailed list of changes and enhancements:
Mail Server Support
- Enhanced support for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 by examining envelope information. This now allows EMA to associate E-Mails sent to distribution groups with the individual group members.
- Enhanced support for Sendmail, Postfix, Sun Edgemail through a dedicated interface, which also examines envelope information.
- Improved support for Scalix and Critical Path by examining envelope information.
Filter
- E-Mail messages marked as private, personal or confidential can now be excluded from the archive. Additionally, the exclusion can be configured to apply to internal and/or external messages only.
- If desired, EMA can be configured to archive only fully internal or fully external E-Mail messages.
- E-Mail message that cannot be assigned to an account can now be excluded from being archived.
Search
- Administrators can now save searches including all query criteria by creating search definitions. If desired, search definitions can be shared with other administrators or can be configured as defaults when loading the Search tab.
- Word lists can now be used for searching.
- When searching for a term, wildcards can now also be used at the begininning of the term.
- Instead of a fixed time span, it is now also possible to create searches that return items older then x years/months/days.
- Administrators can allow users to forward E-Mail messages to a different address. For administrators, a new "Forward" permission is configurable separately from ‘Search’ and ‘Restore’ permissions.
- Support for regular expressions was added (prefixed with ‘R:’),
- Negative searches (listing all documents that do not contain a term) are now possible.
- Treatment of syntax errors in searches was improved.
- The new user account search (with AutoComplete for account names) allows a direct restore of all E-Mail messages associated with an account.
Print 2 Archive
- Support for text-only printers (e.g. dot-matrix printers). EMA can be configured to archive printouts as plain text or as PDF files like before. As far as possible, printouts with graphics will also be converted to text.
- Support for plotters. If desired, printouts can be archived directly in HPGL format instead of being converted to PDF.
- Print2Archive support for 1632 additional printer models was added.
- Aside from IPP, LPD, and Windows print shares, Print2Archive printers can now also be shared via a JetDirect-compatible interface, which creates separate printer queues on Windows systems.
Storage and Backup
- The deletion feature now also supports secure deletion (WIPE) by overwriting deleted data multiple times with bit patterns or random data.
- An E-Mail notification will be sent if the external storage location is not available for longer than one day. Previously, this notification was only shown in the web interface.
- EMA will send status reports in daily intervals if, for example, there is an error with the battery in the raid controller (only E4000/E8000), or if the internal cache is starting to get full because the external storage location is unavailable and cached data can’t be flushed.
- Storage groups can now be shared as Windows file shares. This makes it possible to create backups of storage groups, and allows third-party backup software to access storage groups in parallel with EMA.
Miscellaneous
- The graphs on the System Information page now also plot information about free space on the external storage location.
- The System Information page now also shows the WWUNs of the Fibre Channel HBA.
- Detailed display of the current RAID status on EMA E4000/E8000 appliances.
- A repair feature for RAIDs was added.
- Central configuration of the local time zone and UTC support. All existing signatures and documents are instantly available in the new time zone without restrictions. The time zone can be changed at any time.
- Administrators can now customize the Outlook Integration by changing the name of the folder that is created. Additionally, it now works more efficiently when automatically called in a login script.
- SSL and TLS support can now be enabled for LDAP if needed. LDAP support for Oracle, Groupwise, and IpSwitch iMail was added.
ARTEC plan to roll out EMA release 3.41 at the end of calendar week 47 and is available automatically through EMA’s update system.
