Fujitsu Siemens “Efficient E-Mail” Initiative
Ensuring e-mail archiving and retention compliance for EU directive EuroSOX
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 4, 2008 at 3:20 pmMany enterprises are struggling to stay on top of relentlessly-increasing information bloat caused by e-mail growth. With this situation about to be compounded by the EuroSOX directive, compliance has been brought even more into focus. With the Efficient E-Mail initiative, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is successfully addressing the challenges of e-mail growth and compliance.
EuroSOX, the collective name for the 8th EU Directive governing company law, requires all European Union member states to introduce legislative reform. A consequence for organizations is that the archiving of e-mails will immediately become a compliance-critical issue.
This new legislation will add to the headache of massive e-mail growth, driven by factors such as multimedia and office attachments in messages. For many organizations, the process of e-mail management has grown into their number one priority, according to a study by research firm IDC.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ Efficient E-Mail initiative provides a complete solution for both compliance and growth problems. The Efficient E-Mail solution combines end-to-end message management and archiving through combining best-in-class hardware, software and professional services for an ideal Microsoft Exchange infrastructure.
Efficient E-Mail offers automated, back-office compliance, making sure that organizations can cope with continued mailbox growth plus the mandated need to organize archived messages. The key element of Efficient E-Mail is policy-based archiving. Archiving of e-mail on receipt ensures compliance where it is critical to prove that messages have not been altered after receipt. The mailbox bloat is also tackled by indexing every e-mail on receipt in the archive, so that only one copy is retained – no matter how many times, or to how many recipients a message was sent. Moreover, enhanced business continuity is ensured by preventing annoying ‘mailbox full’ messages – a clear benefit for the end user.
“In developing the Efficient E-Mail offering, our top priority was to give customers the perfect infrastructure for the entire e-mail ecosystem of tomorrow,” says Helmut Beck, Vice-President Storage at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “We have put together a comprehensive solution to the emerging challenge of coping with e-mail archiving and system performance – providing a powerful tool to cut through e-mail mountains and still ensure compliance.”
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has developed the Microsoft Exchange Server-based Efficient E-Mail initiative in association with EMC, Symantec and NetApp. The initiative from Fujitsu Siemens Computers includes the market-leading Symantec Enterprise Vault and EMC EmailXtender products for e-mail archiving as well as storage architectures from EMC, NetApp and Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ own FibreCAT range of systems.
Online questionnaire reveals user habits
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also developed an online questionnaire to help users gain a better insight into their e-mail usage patterns. Based on their answers to about 20 simple questions, participants will be offered helpful hints on how to optimize their productivity. This service is free of charge.
